MFU Conclave 2009

MFU Conclave 2009 was finally materialised on 24th May 2009. A group of 16 fly anglers from all over Malaysia gathered as early as 7AM in the FFLCC Empangan Sg. Air Kuning in Botanical Garden Malaysia in Shah Alam, Selangor. Being the first group to organise & attend such conclave/gathering, it was truly one of the most memorable days in our lives. I will just let the photos do the talking now…;</font id=“size4”>

Friends arrived as early as 7AM - went straight to prepping the rods & reels as seeing the Jelawats jumped in morning frenzy. The brekkie consists of a Tuna Sandwich was almost overlooked.

Almost - but not yet. The sandwich were finally finished in record time.

Pak Teh EVERGREEN - making his way to the water edge.

Radzi - one of the prominent Boo Boys of Puchong.

All set to go. Taiko Fisher, Garyfisher & Naveen making sure the tippet is free of kinks.

When the fish get going, so did the anglers. The fishing sesh was done in the best of ways. The sesh which was supposed to be held up until 10PM was over-spilled till 12PM - proof that everyone was having fun…;</font id=“size4”>

All lined up for the best spot to present the Caddis & Adams to the Jelawats.

Nik Rahimi - the one soul who never stop in making sure his clients get the best of this joint. Thanks very much, Abg Nik.

Teru opted for a less packed spots on the left-side of the pond.

The Taiko (Fisher) & The Master (Garyfisher) in action.

Another sifu in action: Sifu Baba.

Alpocot testing out Radzi’s beautiful flamed bamboo gear. And incidentally hooked-up a good-sized “controversial” Haruan. HA!

Pak Teh used Baba’s butt as “casting target”.

Stealth is the way to go for the now already-smartened Jelawats.

Perserverance pays. Pak Teh with his 1st catch - a beautiful Red Tilapia.

Ubiwan’s casting is still meticulous after several months of abstinence (of casting).

BeLue got what he wants.

Garyfisher in stealth mode.

Teru tried so hard to hook-up the big yellow dinghy. But apparently being rewarded with a good-sized Red Tilapia.

Fly on one side, the frenzy on the other. Oh well…

Alpocot saw few huge Jelawats chasing after the one he hooked.

Cricket imitation that was the par exellance that day - tied by Alpocot.

If u wanna learn how to “mend when u strike”, just ask Teru. HA!

Radzi fighting his captive.

After few small PBs, Fisher landed this beaut.

“Buah Sawit” Fly…?

Naveen fighting his 1st fish on-fly - a Pacu. Judging from his smile, we’re sure he’ll be with us (fly fishing) for a long time.

Zambri “Northern Craftsman” with his first Butterfly Pavon. He & Pak Teh traveled 800km back & forth simply to attend this event.

This one was taken by stealth and a Zonker later in the afternoon.

Malaysian anglers & Malaysian food are no strangers to each other. Lunch was a sumptuous & quick affair after a hefty sesh of fishing. By 12PM, hunger stroke merrily.</font id=“size4”></font id=“black”>

And finally… THE CONCLAVE. Rods & reels were strewn across the tables - injecting the venomous “racun” to every attendants. We talked, listened, cast, tried & tied the whole lot. I’m sure most of us have renewed approach & perspective on fly fishing now. Thanks to Fisher, Alpocot & Garyfisher for the ilmu that were conveyed that day. Cheers.</font id=“size4”>

Opening speech by the MFU Honorable Secretary a.k.a. The Organisor, Mr. Mohd Shukree Abd Rahim a.k.a. BeLue.

Abg Nik sending out his grattitude.

People gathered & listened generously.

Alpocot explaining the concept & objective of such conclave. Plus, some points on fiberglass rods applications.

Bamboo Session was sorted out by the master-builder, Taiko Fisher - the most anticipated session of the day.

Few faces who still cant believe the many a glass fly rods that are owned by Alpocot.

Some reels that were on-display.

Pak Teh seems “chimp-happy” after figuring out how to detach the spool of that Shina reel.

BeLue, Rahiman & Pak Teh took up the opportunities to cast out almost all rods.

Doesnt matter how many fish that were caught, or how big they were. Doesnt matter how expensive or aplenty the rods & reels are. The best thing that matter most is always the smiles & harmony. Thanks very much for those who made it. Lets keep it this way for a long long time, people…

Wah… Shyarul posing with big belly again!!! LOL. Nice pics! [:)]

Don’t mean to sound patronizing or anything like that lah brothers… it looked like a great outing and with beautiful pictures, but that pacu being held up by a foreceps… makes me cringe. Poor pacu probably has a broken jaw.

I guess what i want to say here is that, if you want to practice CnR, at least make sure that when you release the fish it has a maximum chance of survival.

Just my 2 cents lah.

Sorry to rain on anyone’s parade ah.

Once again Nice pics!!! [:)]

U’re rite, bro. We should’ve advised him not to use the forceps. Rea; sorry about that. And thanks for pointing that out… [;)] [:)]

Sifu Riki, looks like a great outing. Congrats. Btw, I agree with afro-d, please do not use forceps. It is more humane to wet your hands and cradle the fish’s belly with one hand and lip grip with your thumb and fore finger with the other hand. That way, the fish will be more comfortable when raised out of the water.

LOL. Orangminyak belum pernah tangkap Pacu kah. Thumb and fingers on a pacu’s mouth? Habis!!! [:)]

Huyo! I’m no sifu lah. U’re rite, Ben. It was entirely my fault coz didnt advise him to not use the forceps. Maybe got carried away during the photo frenzy. Really hope this kind of silly mistake will not be repeated again. Thanks for the concern. Cheers, Ben… [;)] [8D]

"The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad." ~A.K. Best~

Afro_D : Yes, I have caught Pacu before.

Conservationists now suggest that if we need to bring a fish out of water, then the angler should hold his breath the whole duration the fish is out of water then we will feel what it is like not being able to breath.

Likewise, if we are going to fish and grip the fish by the lips, then we should use our hands so that we know how painful it is as the fish also feels pain when we shove things into its mouth and hold them by their lips.

I just spoke to Farkson and he told me off for using hooks to catch fish.

According to him, the hooks used will cause hurt and harm to the fish.

So, for all those Fly Fishos who are so concerned about hurting fish, Farkson is suggesting using HOOKLESS flies and luring the fish near to shore and then using a landing net to catch them. That way, no one gets hurt.

hahahaha… good suggestion oily man… [:D][:D][:D] maybe sifu riki can then teach us rookies how to do it… [:o)][:o)][:o)][:P][:P][:P][:D][:D][:D] or maybe andrew… [}:)][}:)][}:)][:D][:D][:D]

I feel there’s nothing wrong with what you said, AfroD and can’t figure out why anyone would feel offended by that.

If the seniors don’t advise the newbies, how else would they learn?

Bravo for speaking up! [:D]
