Modding!!!! Customize!!! Aftermarket!!!!

Hi Guys!! Just finish my dinner and pop out to put some new topic in here.. Did you ever see the Japanese customize their reels??? Some weight reduction, aluminium handle, power handle, light-weight spool, holes on the reels and spool too, extra bearings, and many more.

They even put their names too!!! What a artistic people they can be!!! I wonder in Malaysia have this kind of service.. it is just like modified our cars, motorcycles and others..

I just can say it is astonishing to see their “personal-own-use’weapon”.. Different from others.. Any comments sifu???

Cheers~

Hi Bro Kelisa, its more tham bling bling thing lorr. hahahaha.. between, I wonder they have a name for this team of modification.. Just like in cars, we have Brabus and Impul, which they like to mod thier cars to the fullest..hahaha..

Maybe we can create one for them.. Like " Abu Garcia Tuned", “Team Daiwa Custom”, “Shimano Nismo”, or “Penn Brabus”.. Hahahaha.. Just my imagination.. Anyone have better name??

Cheers and good night~~

it’s not about adding bling to the reel at all… it’s modification for functional purposes.

yes..bro…it;s adding the bling bling for additional function…hehe..

u can do it… but maybe not as nice as the japs do it for they have the mould so its easier to paint nicely and correctly…

i;ve some ppl tat electroplate it with other funny funny colours and it can be done

for the rest, such as bearing count, light weight spool, handles can be ordered online and be customized to ur reel(make sure its compatible with ur reel, as for bearing rusting is an issue). as for drilled holes, can be done actually there are ppl who do tat. but again, the japs have the exact equipment to do it nicely without scratches… u can drill it urself too, takes out a lot of weight, however pls beware not to do it at the wrong part or else a corrosion resistance reel can be down right unresistant

last but not least… ARE THEY SERIOUSLY TAT IMPORTANT FOR THE HARD EARNED MONEY U PAY? is it neccesaru tat the reel u pay for on the shelf couldnt perform as well as wat u further tune it for? and are those upgrade have any long term reliability? Do they cause much damage than without, beware, some is totally irreversible!

imho again, i’d rather spend on a top dollar reel and spend less on those upgrades as it already have its timeless reputation and performance, blah blah blah… money well spent.

well let say, u bought a cheapo reel for rm120, then u spend on bearing(stainless steel, not high end) rm50 include installation, new handle rm50(if u can get one), drill holes(with ur own drill) FOC, plate new colours(if can find the right device) rm50, new better spool(if its tat much better, and if u can find one tat suits ur model of bc) rm100, change knob(for comfort or asthetic or none of the mentioned) rm20. change gearing(if possible) rm50. end up u spend approx rm450, and do note tat it’s the minimum pricing tat i place in approximately, but look at it its still tat cheapo reel. For rm450 it isnt impossible to get a higher range ones dont u think? tat also if u r using a cheapo reel, wat if u use slightly higher end gear, price???

just some food for thoughts guys, not to offend anyone here. cheers

Novice angler here, any constructive advices greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi guys.. Sneak out to reply the forum.. Haha.. Reallu=y a headache if we take only one day leave and the mail is coming like hell..[:(]

Back to the business.. Yes I agree will all the comments.. Let see… We can take this example to be discuss.. Haha.. As we know, national cars is always the choice of all… Same for mid class reels.. They are affordable, correct??

Then why the driver always take it to do some modification.. Change to sport rim la, put skirt la, put bumper front and back la, spoiler la, aftermarket muffler la, and many more.

So if they can spend that money, if we add, they can buy a much more better cars.. No need to for all those mods.. Like you say, it is still a normal car (I did not say “Cheap” right?? Haha.. As I am buying national car too [:D]).

But they still insist to mod.. Hmmmm.. Why??? More fun??? Can “Lan C”??? Well, let us think about it ya..

Cheers~

izzit something like this??? [:D][:D][:p]

[W]ith [W]inds~~[S]hall [W]e Cast??

Hooi - we need to consider apples versus apples.

A body kit, jazzy wheels and tires, a nice sound system, etc - how much will these cost ? - maybe 10% of the cost of the car ?

Convert this 10% into e.g. a Rm 100 reel - what are you going to do with Rm10 ?

That is why TJS is asking - if we actually intend to spend much more on customizing our fishing stuff - why not buy a better piece of equipment in the first place ya ? This is valid.

Does that stop me from " customizing " - not really !

I like my name to be stuck onto my custom built rods, I have changed many of my drag washers to Smoooth Drags, replaced some plain bronze bearings with roller bearings, etc.

Do they all work better ? … sometimes maybe yes, and sometimes, maybe no … but it does allow me to leave " my influence " on the equipment that I treasure.

But, … will I spend the cost of the equipment on upgrades ? No … I will tend to look at it the same way as TJS.

Our hobby is for our fun and relaxation - fiddle around with the stuff if it gives you pleasure - but no need to go overboard [:D]

Concrete advice Bro!!! Thanks a lot ya… Wow!!! Is that your baitcaster?? Damn nice Conquest you have there!! That’s my monthly salary ya bro.. Sure sifu out there is very very very active into this sport.. Cos their arsenal is god damn good ya.. [:D]

Cheers~

EK favorite statement:-

Expensive Equipment + No Fish or No Big Fish = Hopeless Stuff

Cheap Equipment + Lots Fish or Big Fish = Good Stuff

Cheap Equipment + Lots Fish + Big Fish = Excellent Stuff

Free Equipment + Lots Fish + Big Fish = Dreamland Stuff

WAR: it’s not about who’s RIGHT, it’s about who’s LEFT

True…true…EK philosophy…If RM 100 for 300m of PE3 or 4, or 5, or 6, or 7, or 8…The choice is simple…go for highest possible poundage = best value for money, longer lifespan, can get small to big2 fish. Tis applies to rod, reel, line, and watever you may think is appropriate[:D][:D][:D]</font id=“purple”>

Wah ! … if that is true, you better watch out for the clothesline at the back of your house lah ! [:D][:D][:D]

agree with TJS, Mike.
i apply the same to cars as well, ie NO POINT</font id=“teal”>

might as well spend the $$$ on better gear/tackle.
my personal opinion of mods is “syiok sendiri” and, to a certain extent, a (glaring) characteristic of wanna-bes.

for me, performance gear with understated looks is where it’s at.

and Wong Sifu sez it aptly [:D]
the cheapest ‘katak’ reel that delivers is waaaaaaay better than a RM5k+ stella that doesn’t [:p]
