Most Ideal Finesse FW Baitcasting Rod

Mostly we do baitcasting in fresh water with lures to target the predator fishes.

And predator fishes being predators are generally stronger and larger in size and as such the finesse rod to be used will have to compromise given the above situations.

Too lightweight a rod may get the angler into trouble and a tad too heavy may reduce the joy and excitement of playing with the fish.

So if I were to suggest a baitcasting rod which is the ideal one, for peacock bass, haruan, toman or sebarau…

I would think a 6ft 6in, medium action rod of line weight 6 to 10 lbs will be the most enjoyable rod to use in most of the situations.

Please offer your opinion.

6-16lb fantasista regista is what u need bro… heheheh

You could be a bit light - depends on where you fish - a paypond would be ok, but I use between max 12 - 16 lb to facilitate the hook up, and also to keep the fish under control. My lines are always braids in the region of 10 - 15 lb, and drag is set to approx 3 - 5 lbs.

A 7 foot makes it slightly clumsy if we are landing fish all on our own - a 6 foot is easier - but my favorite is also the 6 1/2 feet for a reasonable compromise. ( but I prefer a fast action )

I also prefer 6 1/2 rod; however in terms of the line max i wud go for 20lbs..kiasu laa..

U dun fish; then how u know got no fish!

im using team daiwa x 4-10lb casting rod pair with pixy n 10lb stren super braid
quite nice n also light weight but im using it for peacock bass hunting
i’ve try use it to hunt haruan but it seem 2 me that the haruan is more powerfull
then the rod itself

Brother, a rod of such a wide range 6 - 16 lbs will tend to waggle (shake) a lot when you cast out the lure. I have several 6 - 20 lbs but not using them due to the same problem. But they are supposed to be great crankbait rods.

My opinion is rods of a narrower range, will normally cast crip and neat, ie without much waggling.

Mike,
you are right. It is a bit too light and you tend to lose fish after fish if they are big. Simply the fishes cannot be powered to where you want them to be. May be that is the excitement you get from a filmsy rod.

hahahaha… nowadays big fishes are few. you truly enjoy with a light rod.

Broher,
Try using 8 to 12 lbs line. You will find a world of difference.

Zuju bro,

the fantasista isnt wobbly at all… i know of some tat’s too shaky to use but not on the regista, or else i wouldnt have own 2 myself hehhehe

for narrower gap… i still have a brand new fantasista standard 8-14lb… but i just love the regista too much to use it haha. backup only lo

Finesse = Casting light lures < 6 gr. , check the casting weight of the rod before deciding to buy one . Generally such rod won’t have a line rating beyond 12 lbs. , less is more likely .

Fantasttic. Had it been a heavy set up, half of the excitement was not there.

Im using a pixy + st croix premier 4-10lbs rod with 6lbs gsp line. Super awesome when fishing for PB and sebbie. Enjoyed it the most with this setup. Also have a alpha + ryobi regno 4-12lbs damn fun too for smallish 1-2kg toman.. Shiok![}:)]

I love fishing. You put that line in the water and you don’t know what’s on the other end. Your imagination is under there.
