What can I say? Klang rocks!!
Finally caught a decent sized Grouper from the shore! OK, it’s not huge by boat standards, but for normal shore fishing, it’s a good size! Saw the tidal forecast on EasyTide and it showed only a 1.5m difference from low to high with a high tide at 11:50am. For those that fish at Klang, the tide can be strong and will pull a 150g grip sinker and move it along like it wasn’t there! So I figured today would be safer and lose less gear than normal.

I started off fishing near the sail-boat at Tanjung Harapan along with a few others around 10am. After an hour of nothing, not even a bite, I thought I’d move back to my favourite spot. After half an hour, using prawn & squid strips without a bite, I put a squid head onto a pulley rig and cast out as far as I could. About 5 minutes later, the reel screamed and I was into a fish – a Duri (type of catfish) This is actually the biggest Duri I have caught, so I was happy already.

High tide came and started to turn, so in my last cast, I hooked up a big piece of sotong (squid) and hurled it out. The reel jammed and it landed about 50m out! So, I thought I’d leave it there as it was a nice bait. After about 10 minutes, the reel went zzzzzzz and then stopped. I looked up and the rod nodded a couple of times and then stopped. I waited and it nodded again, but nothing big. I had been plagued by rubbish catching the line, so thought I’d leave it a while longer while I packed up the other rod and got ready to leave. Looked up at the rod again and it gave another nod, so I struck and it was heavy! Reeling in was fun as the fish on the other end liked it down there and headed for the rocky reef of doom. I ran along the rocks and managed to free the line whilst still reeling in. I couldn’t believe my eyes when this big brown fish with a big mouth appeared!!!
This is my best Grouper to date and I’m so happy it came from the shore of Klang!!

Matsalleh boleh!!
