the explanation on the mag seal is buy-able, believable. would love to test them out! seems like daiwa has been working extra hard to innovate.
if not mistaken, they were the 1st to announce the use of Zaion material, which Shimano then launched its CI4 as a counter-attack of sorts(which is used on its bike frames)
i am wondering what would shimano counter this Mag Seal thing with?

I played with the new 2010 certate the other night, went through al their sizes. IMHO, it’s not a better reel than the old certates. Reels seem to be not as smooth, maybe to do with the mag-seal feature. Although I didn’t open one up, the drag clicker sounds like some cheap china made reel, the main shaft is noticeably thinner! Cosmetics wise, it looks UGLY!!! But that’s just my opinion. Price wise, it also costs cheaper than the old certates, by quite a bit.. Over AU$100 saving!
i have not had any good remarks about the previous ABU spinning reels (except for the Suveran), so lets see how this thing performs. looks good on pics & stats though…styling wise is spot on for me.
apparently they appear to be finesse reels… only up to 2500 size. and the price quite steep too… let’s see how ABU try to take a bite of the pie from shimano/daiwa in the spinning reel segment.
ABU has done a great job redeeming themselves from the slump they were in the last decade, and ‘the reel’ that saved their skin was none other than the Revo.

I’ll be sticking to the old models for now!
Thanks Sunny for the quick review…still not have chance to play/molest the 2010 Certate yet…
But from the look/cosmetics…I’ll be sticking with my old R model too for now…

eh?
just handles a 2010 certate 3000 and 2500 earlier. damn smooth. smoother than my stella. smoother than any previous version certate. very light ‘pick-up’ with a light tap on the handle. maybe u got a defective unit?
built wise, i think its solidly built. if not mistaken, the rotor is zaion material but the body is alum. the gears felt smooth and engaged. i loved the feel of it, especially when compared to the previous version 2500-R custom.
looks wise, i think it’s eye-catching, and innovative as compared to dull-looking reels…
aaaarggghhhh … .FT your review is making me drool all the more … aarrrgggggGGGHHHHHHH !!!
[:p]
btw, is it really cheaper than its predecessor?
hahah… cheaper i’m not sure. better i think yes…
i bought my 2500 r-custom for about rm1350 back when it was launched…maybe 2 yrs ago. the new ones are hovering around that price point i guess… i haven’t been doing any tackle shopping lately. just window shopping touch touch play play only… [:(]
