Bro LH,

Any casting surfcasting rod you recommend for a beginner like me?

depend on what purpose you going to die with and… money wont tell how beginner you are, it’s depend on your budget also which type of tart you’re (high end brand or cap ayam).

but for field casting i highly recommended the rod that has been used such like models from Century,Zziplex,ATC and etc cause it is not a rod you can easily bully.

for fishing it’s depend on you, a high end or cap ayam.

mykel..

surfcasting has two division of sports…1, the surf fishing a.k.a. land based fishing, and 2. distance casting.

the similarities are the distance desired in both the division hence good tackles should be emphasized, irrespective of whether you are a beginner or otherwise.

In surf fishing, when u desire to haul a biggie if you catch one, a combo of good tackles will obviously be a wise choice to fight the monster jerking at the other end.

In distance casting, most of the sportsmen prefer specialized high-end rods and reels to get their best distance.

Nonetheless, still it goes back to the availability of funds and like leadhunter mentioned, if you love the sports very much you may want to go all the way to have the best arsenal with you to be competitive and to mitigate any risk of seeing your investment go down the drain if the rod patah.

Just like golfers, they will normally buy the best golf clubs they can because the champions used it and true enuff the branded ones are generally more forgiving and are much better than the cap ayam ones even for the average golfer. But a bad golfer will remain a bad one even if he uses the best of breeds golf club.

Don’t be heart broken! A low budget rod can still do the work if you intend to do surf fishing. But picture this, why do many seasoned surf anglers and distance casters always want to upgrade their tackles? I bet, you jolly well know the answer.

Good luck buddy! And if you have decided to invest in any of the surf tackles based on your budget, irrespective of what it is, the surf casting fraternity welcome you to join the weekly training or any surf fishing activities.

cheers…

p.s. I want to recall a quote by enrahim…he said..“eddy kalau pakai batang rambutan pun boleh hit 200m”.

Thanks LH and 12F for advising..

I have made up my mind to surfcast using the multiplier..Today I went to survey for the multiplier and rod..

For the multipliers, I saw Abu 6500 C3 CT MAG, 6500 C3 CT HIGH SPEED, 6500CT ROCKET pricing RM3++ to 4++.. all open cage and without line level..which one is recommended for me?

Is that any modification needed to be done on the reel before using it?

For the rods, not much rods I see can be used with multiplier (maybe I do not know how to judge them). Is the surfcasting rod with foldable striper ring ok to use with multiplier? Or the rod for multiplier should only have low rings? How to know the backbone of a surfcasting rod used for spinning or multiplier? I like the slim body and adjustable reel seat (I think the reel seat maybe can be lowered if using multiplier..hehe) of Abu Ultra Cast..can it be used with multiplier? a 13’ or 15’ more suitable for a begineer like me? But I saw a DAM surf rod definitely for multiplier, but body a bit bulky..

As I am staying in KL, I think not much chance for me to go beach for surfcasting compared to my Uni time in Kuantan. So I think I am going to invest for a multiplier set that can be used to achieve distance. As it is like my fly-fishing, most of the time I practice at field and only sometimes going for real fly-fishing. But when fly-ing at field, we can gain the satisfaction every time we make a perfect casting at longer distance. I guess we also can gain the same satisfaction if we do the surfcasting at field seeing we overtake our previous distance records at the same time learning new and correct casting methods, right? (correct me if I am wrong)

I know surfcasting sifus have the casting training on every saturday. Can I join?

Sorry for being questionaire. Thank you.

Any surfcaster coming down to Kepong tackle to look for surfcasting set? Can let me know so that I can join to steal knowledge? hehe..thanks ya!!

Woowww… you really serious bro Mykel Flyer…

bro mykel..

it looks like u fancy distance casting…that in view I suggest you contact encik rahim at 0126695126 or en aznaff 0178805445, bro onn and even our very own champ LH, to search for the appropriate rod. If you pandai pujuk, u may even got the chance to buy from them a rod or three. I personally don’t think the rod u mentioned could satisfy you in field/distance casting once u have accustomed with the sport and want to bloom to give the seasoned casters an even challenge. Invest in a specialized rod as mentioned by LH.

Most of us here stay in KL and if you are around setiawangsa and if u r a morning person, u may want to car pool with the most rajin distance casters, encik rahim and aznaff to their training ground every saturday morning.

cheers..

p.s.

  1. the distance casters will prefer abu ct, open cage w/o levelwind…and yes, they do modification to the reel…LH is the expert

  2. if u like, u can chit-chat with en rahim and aznaff over teh tarik which they regularly had after they put their other half to bed hehehe..

  3. learn from LH and become a champ like him..

  4. i, tokkok oni can aarrr…hehehe

thanks bro 12F..

Will go to meet bro LH and mintak tunjuk ajar tonite…hehe

Personnaly I will go for High speed 6.3:1 ratio Rocket. As for the rod, to me is best look for 13 or 14 footer much friendly, Shimano Surf ( Orange Color @ Kepong Tackle) got, ask Uncle or Auntie or Neng for it. The rod come with both Spinning and Multiplier format.

Everybody are welcome to Suajana, just bring ur rod and reel.

Cheers.

kevin,

No need to buy that reel, MagElite CT 6500 or Abu Rocket CT6500(price approx. +RM400) is very much cheaper and very good engouh to do the job, there nothing special about that orange reel (Abu Sunset) compared with the above two.

Cheers.
