Looking for water to fish is so much easier nowadays, use Google map and you will never run short of places to explore and fish. Next is hang around tackle shops and you will find stream flow of sifu who might allow you to tag along.

Are we allow fish in malaysia freshwater?
Apparently all waterways in Singapore are dammed to become reservoirs, if allowed to fish, you have more place to fish than in Malaysia.

Some advise for a fellow MFN buddy.
If u r just starting out fishing hobby, best place to begin are payponds. At least, you know there are fish there, whether can catch them or not is dependent on your skill & experience. Take fishing as a game, a sport, a fun thing to do, like any game, you need to spend some $$$ & time to master the skills. Call it ‘tuition fees’. Freshwater payponds in M’sia are quite reasonable. Some places are more affordable than others. Do some research. Also, people who favor payponds are more ‘generous’ to share their tips & strategies on which nook & corner are best spots. Proceed to wild fishing when you have learned the basics, bcoz, in wild fishing, YOU have to FIND the fish instead, which is an entirely new branch of skill by itself.
I’m not from Johor & I don’t know any fishing there. Best I can point you to the Internet. Try searching “Kolam Bayar” or “Kolam Memancing” in Malay language, you will find plenty of blogs, websites & web links to these places.
Whether you prefer baitcasting or baitfishing, is entirely up to you. Move up the skill & fishing tackle according to your own pace. Never be under pressure to jump straight on the bandwagon to buy the “best reel, best rod, best line & etc” unless you NEED them not WANT them. Otherwise, after spending a fortune on these gears & not landing a decent fish for a while, you’d feel demoralized.
