Night time fishing for Haruan

Dear MFN Members:

i have just been posted to Thailand (Surathani). I was walking along some drain and was amaze to see 3 1-2kg Haruan at the bank (10pm). I had to recheck 3 times it was a haruan and not a monitor lizard. My Thai friend help me confirm it was indeed haruan.
I went back in the morning to the same spot in the morning but they were not there. Then i return again at night and they were there at the same spot. I repeat this on 3 alternate days.
I would need some advice from all the Sangyu Sifu here, is there any other method to fish for Haruan at night other than using live frogs which i avoid using. I brough my whole lure box with me. Thanks in advance for the advice.

u can try popper.

try out the bomber bushwhacker… some of our friend here already try it and they got strike!!! try the black 1… or you can try the flouroscent colour of soft plastic… good luck!!! [:D]

Any of your daytime lures will work just fine. Use whatever you would normally use at that location during the day. Don’t worry about the fish not finding them, they will!!

Your only worry is your own ability to see and whether you can cast ok and avoid snags.

Spinner bait would be a good option IMO as they are relatively snag-free.

Why not “DIY” by experimenting what I had tries before, as:-

  1. Haruan spoon-spinner: using part of squid, meat tendon as a bait.
  2. Artificial lure: frog, fish minnow, rapala shad rap, popper
  3. Single hook: with dead/life fish as a bait

Just cast and retrieve slowly until pass them. Good luck
