OFB - One Fathom Bank, Port Klang

On 12/04/2008 me and a bunch of friends went to OFB - One Fathom Bank. All of them are first timer to OFB and most of them are bloggers not anglers…hehehe…[:D]

This is a story of OFB - One Fathom Bank by a non angler Ighost…[:D]

This trip like many of our MyKlang stories began with a feast. And it happened not on just any other ordinary day. It happened on a day Malaysian History was changed (though we did not realized it then). March 8 - a day all Malaysian of this and future generations will always remember. When a political tsunami swept the go~ment boat and badly damaged it giving renewed hope to the people. Some of us had voted, others will be doing soon but like the sentiment of the rest of the country, it was a table of malcontents. So when a man came and distributed buttons with the smiling face of a ruling party candidate, he got an earful and beat a hasty retreat. When asked where we were on that fateful day, none of us will ever forget - we were having Bak Kut Teh!

For we were there to have a meeting to discuss our trip to One Fathom Bank coming April 12. By the time I arrived with Lemon Angel, Kurauking, Kimmy, Kobzng, Pooh88, Aircraft and two newcomers - pstan82 and Genio were already there and eating. The whole country was boiling over the brim and we make sure our soups were too for we really believe in the adage - “never fight on an empty stomach.”
No one seemed to bother that the serious discussions on the trip took slightly more than 5 minutes and the eating the rest. The purpose after all is to have fun. And to MyKlang members, not many things can beat piping hot good food. Come to think of it, it could be we were super-efficient, ya, that sounds better than food addicts. We were super-effective food addicts. Stomach full, we relaxed and settled down lazily to discuss anything under the sun including politics. Later that night, we were all be again be online in the forum discussing the political upheaval in the most exciting election we have ever known. Our trip started on a day the country has a new hope, a new dream and hopefully a new future. Looked like our trip could not have started on a more auspicious day! We have created history! Ordinary men and women like us having breakfast on a lazy Saturday…[:D]

We decided to choose yesterday to go shopping for essential for the trip. Alex had his trip ready but he kept leaving it in his car. Kurau & me had our cameras ready. But the most sporting of all is Gneeley who until now had not decided whether she will join her not-so-exciting friends in Penang or our very-exciting group to OFB. No brainer, Gne. In spite of that she accompanied us while a NUMBER of PPL who should be there all FFK. They can watch while we wallop those food. Anyway, consistent with our quality; before we start anything, we had a MAKAN!!![:D]

We had the famous curry laksa at the back of the Cathay Cinema in Klang. It had been a number of years since I was there. I parked the car so Ikan could sit himself first and he rewarded me by not ordering my laksa. He said he don’t know what to order when only laksa is available. Rocket scientist. Anyway, as I was taking shots while approaching the store, an old man with one knee up his stool loudly shouted “What the F### am I taking picture for??” I ignored that group of rude old men and shouted without looking “Not taking your pic, dude!” Alex told me that the half hour he was here waiting for us, there has been none stop expletives from them. They are probably old time gangsters who think they are still in their youth. First caution - shopping can be dangerous from toothless old men.

Because of Kurau’s ample generosity, I have to nurse this drink of sugarcane lime while he slurped on his noodles loud enough to wake up the dead, not waiting for me. With friends like that, who needs enemy?

Finally, my curry laksa came and it was worth the wait. Is it because our memory played tricks on us or is it was really better all those years ago? I felt the soup was not as rich as before. It was still good but my memory told me it was greater then. We had to drive through the Klang crawl to reach our destination to shop - Tesco Bukit Tinggi.

And instead of helping us do the necessary, Kurau went and chat up the SYT in the camera shop. See how engrossed his expression was? Come to shopping - Kurau is not much help.

You see or not? The minute he was in the Supermart, he became dazed like a deer staring at the approaching headlight.
So stunned that he did not even notice when another forummer (Tony Wee) who shopping passed him by.
I tried to follow those eyes but I still cannot figure out what is that he saw…[:D]

Then, suddenly Alex came running -

“I Got it! I Got it!”

And what in heaven’s name did he get that got him all so hot and excited???
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

HOT DOGS!!![:D]

Now, don’t the rest of you regret you did not join us that day? Such drama! They have to reinforced security…[:D]

Now they were burning up brain cells figuring out what to buy next. Decisions, decisions, decisions. These brains are just not make for shopping…

And while they are still deep into the figuring territory, a figure in red came and stole what they have just bought. It was a comedy of error…[:D]

This is what the super-efficient shoppers bought after half an hour and walking round the supermarket 3 times. The condom was put back again and replaced with the chilli sauce. Kurau got expensive taste. No ordinary nescafe for him. He went for the GOLD ROAST! Wooooh!! Still within budget. Still within budget, he said…[:D]

At first - there was ONE MAN with the GUN.

Then - there were TWO MEN with -
ketchup and Orang Juice bottles…[:D]

You thought they were confused? You ain’t see nothing yet!
Come to the kitchen wares section and they were totally lost.
Alex pointed to the sky and what is up there???[:D]

But Kurau understood immediately what was said -
He reached out for it.

Alex pointed to the sky.
Kurau understood and knew what to buy.

These are essential.
Man must eat, ghost must also eat.
Gold paper to sprinkle all the way from Port Klang to One Fathom Bank.

When we shop, we really shop.
Not only for the living but also for the dead…[:D]

After getting heaven paper, we continue to look for things useful…

And Kurau FOUND IT!!!
But wat he wan to do with it, I haven’t the faintest idea.
Must be for some really twisted wicked purpose - Look Out!

Alex thought it a great idea too!
So he gave that brainac a bong!
I wonder if they are following these in CCTV![:D]

Diapers too expensive.
But we have got kitchen papers - easier to cover the backside ma.
Look the cart is FULL!

And Alex is happy his duty is DONE![:D]

Shoppings done. Time to tally up and pay.

And it is not percuma!

All in 43 items and RM226.59…[:D]

Shopping is done and paid for. Despite the havoc we created in Tesco, we did not get detained or arrested. From toilet paper (rough big ones - ladies who want soft perfumed one, buy yourself :D) to paper plates, from Nescafe to Chili Sauce, from drinking water to plastic cups, from hot dogs to can opener, from joss sticks to heaven money, we got it all; we think. If we don’t, we will suffer for it, just hope it is nothing that will create permanent damage. Load the whole stuff into Alex’s car who is worried that it is not big enough to accomodate…

But we got them all safely in…[:D]

We began the shopping with a makan. We naturally end the shopping with a makan as well. After some deliberations on what to eat, Kurau says A & W! So there we went…[:D]

And he demonstrated how to suck a root beer float and…[:D]

the proper way to eat a Corney Dog. First you kiss it…[:D]

Then you lick it…[:D]

Then you chomp it down in one go…[:D]

Food preparation for this OFB trip…[:D]</font id=“size5”></font id=“navy”>

It was only late last night before SiewLing, the last of the three angels reached Port klang. I was too exhausted by events of the last few days to fetch her. This was left to Lemon. This morning, they all gathered at my house to go through the food preparation. We are going to make sure no one is going hungry on this trip. In fact, we want to make everyone to enjoy the food. Team C took their task seriously…[:D]

Yuli who is the mastermind for plotting and preparing the meals explained to the angels on how to do it right. In this case, it is the Asam Pedas which is one of my personal favorite. We intended to cook the fish we caught with this sauce.

Next, it is trying out the kuih labu or fried pumpkin batter - my favorite teatime snacks and she made them great with a special chilly sauce to go with it. Actually, before this we had failed with two batches and did not know the reasons why. After going through everything, we discovered that the flour used was different because Tesco ran out of ‘Cap Sauh’ or ‘Anchor Brand’. Of course la, the flour used is very important and the generic brand was no good at all. Problem was solved after we used back the correct flour.

All the angels tried their hand at spreading the batter and frying them. I was no good at this always spreading them too thick. Delicate hand is needed for this.

Angel Sunshine checked out the batter. This is Yuli’s secret recipe. Anyone who wanted them must go through their agent - me! haha.

Yuli the master showed them the proper technique and they seemed to be enjoying the instruction. Beats me, women’s thing.

Yuli cut them up with scissors for the angels to try.

And this is what they say.

Freshly fried kuih labu with the special chilly sauce - a meal not to be missed!

To be continue…[:D]

The journey began…[:D]</font id=“size5”></font id=“navy”>

We went through our preparation to make sure that everything was how we wanted them and then rushed to meet up with the others. They were having breakfast in KK Bah Kut Teh but told us if we were running short to time to meet them direct in Tanjung Harapan. When we reached KK BKT, they had left so we proceeded to North Port. In the food stall opposite the Port Klang Golf Resort, we received a warm welcome as we hooked up with the rest. The other members besides us 4 (ighosts, sunshinejune, lemon, siewling) are kurauking, MyKlang founder kimmy, alexlim, aircraft, kobzng, pstan82, and gneleey.

We had a last minute briefing by the king on what to expect and do.

The fun has begun. Even before the journey really start, jokes and kidding were flying around in earnest. It left outsiders with “kepala pening” for if you are looking from outside, can you figure out what are they doing??? And what is that coming out of Alex’s mouth?

We drove to the loading point just further down the road. What I took are random shots so who are the hard working ones are caught accidentally…ha ha. So dun blame me, camera dun lie… Kobee you are the first one cleared.

It was a busy place buzzling with activities for we were not the only group going to OFB. All in there were four groups going and the amount of gears we brought along with straggling - but mainly fishing stuffs - portable batteries, life baits, pumps, even fishing radars and of course a multitudes of fishing poles of all styles and lengths and foods to feed a battalion.

The group of us “city tortoises” added to the confusion and commotion doing what needed to be done three times. Three times the fun mar!
There were a lot of shouting and directionless directions - ha ha. You want to watch a group of highly enthusiastic lost souls - that are proudly us. “Without a clue” - kobee pointed to his head as if to say.

Meanwhile, tai kor kimmy is coolly patiently recording it all from a vantage point. I wonder what must be going on in his head, how am I going to ‘mother’ this group of slightly unhinged characters. Must put this away to use as case studies but he still would not have finished even after he wrote a bigger tomb than J.K.Rowling’s famous book. And more interesting, I should say for we may be mad but we are not make-believe!! Ha![:D]

Now the ‘heavies’ arrived. They were the mercenaries recruited by Kurau who was worried that our famed fishing skills were going to end up with no one having fish for dinner. These are the professionals and were Kurau regular sparing partners. They were Openg and Zul. Looked at their gears and you knew thay were not here to just play play.

Not to be outdone, the king arrived with his trusted bazooka. His expression said it all - “Don’t you mess with me! I’ll blow you to kingdom come!”

This was passed to Kobee. And Kurau quickly moved away - “Kobee! That is not the right way you hold the end of a gun!”

All our rations somehow safely made it safely to Station One while we waited for further orders of deployment. We took cover under the shady camouflage of a rain tree. Someone exclaimed “It is hot!” Ha. They didn’t what is "hot’ yet…[:D]

This is the village they must take. Don’t look like much but don’t let looks fooled you, it has strategic significance. We must take it over at all cost.

And for all we know, this winding path could be the perfect place for an ambush.

Suddenly the reasons why we must come here became clear. There is the marine units that we must capture. After we take these smaller boats, we can then take on the bigger one in the background.

We needed a point man. Someone fearless, someone willing to risk his life. So we sent our leader to be the scout. Off he marched into enemy territory with the ‘gaya’ of a man who stare death in the face and does not flinch. His mission - to secure our landing.

The shooting began…[:D]

The shooting war began. All who were equipped started shooting. Alex fired the first shot.

The King has a spotter. She pointed to him where to shoot.

Then Kobee spotted a target and he started shooting…[:D]

But when the target shot back. He used an angel body as shield…[:D]

He manoeuvred himself behind his shield and continued shooting…[:D]

Following textbook tactics, he made himself as small a target as possible. He monoeuvred himself to the right…

And then to the left, all the while shooting…[:D]

Kimmy & Sunshine shooting enemies from below…[:D]

Or at enemies hiding behind trees.

While Kurau shot from behind the door. Gunshots rang out everywhere…[:D]

After we have secured the second base, we moved the heavy artilleries. For this task, we need the special ‘FedEx’ muscle men delivery team. Here they are and showing the correct macho attitude - sticking out their tongue at snipers.

They were drawing shots all the way but they gingerly marches on, careful not to misstep which will land them in hot soup, no, sticky muds. Too early for a mud bath as yet.

Kimmy going for the low shots now on flexy bend knees.

And here comes the rest of the merry band of brothers.

And sisters.

Our Communication Officer informing Headquarter of our progress. The whole team is more than proficient in multi-tasking.

Our Demolition Expert with materials for pipe bombs and heavy damages. This commando is bred tough and can “tahan lasak”, it had ‘special force’ written on his face.

WHAT??? Our general already surrendering at this early stage to the enemy? No, that is is a foil. A ruse to confuse the enemy. He cool is made of sterner stuff. His motto - “NO SURRENDER” unless you want to assign to permanent toilet maintenance…[:D]

Next come our Live Ammunition Expert carrying the unstable rounds carefully.

They were not looking too good. The weather is too hot and the pump is not strong enough to give them enough oxygen. Some oleri mampus but nothing goes to waste in the army. They were later be used to make excellent Asam Pedas Udang. Hehe…

See all those transparent prawns that are still strong enough all crowded round the mouth of the air pump.

Next came our aircraft engineer, we have the whole deal - everyone an expert in his field.

We have secured Station 2. And now waited to capture the boats.

Our commando pstan giving the victory sign for a good beginning assault…[:D]

These are our allies commandos who are preparing to coordinate with us to assault the same bank.

They will form the first wave of attack and boarded their craft first.

They have their own specialist equipment and brought these depth charges along.

These brave souls waved their goodbyes. They adopted the motto of the Charge of the Light Brigade - “Ours is not to question why, Ours is just to do and die”. They seemed happy enough to go on their mission.

Their craft backed up and they are soon on their way.

Anyone knows the purpose of this bobby trap left behind by the enemy? Hehe…[:D]

Faster a bit la…
From yesterday i wait u all take the boat,… still not yet board…
now only load barang into the boat…

fuhhh kk i miss this kuih…perhhh so marvelous!!! manyak garing woo…

Soli boss, okokok the OFB story continues…[:D]

We started moving again after a brief respite.

The troop moves smoothly, silently, efficiently; each knowing exactly what he or she must do and lend support to anyone who needs a helping hand.

Those who have done their part, double back to help some more.

We assailed, took and hold Rainbow Bridge.

The King went in first and started to direct operation from there.

And the rest of the team followed…[:D]

The stuff are then loaded into our boat. The first to go on board is of course our food ration. Often a war is lost not on the battlefield but in the stomach. That is why all mothers taught their daughters - “The way to a man’s heart is through the stomach.” So carefully, mates.

Then our drinks. They are more important so the angels would have to wait…[:D]

A human chain was formed through which our line of transportation was established and our stuff was passed from one end to the other. Talk about co-operations…[:D]

All the four Angels now descend from Heaven. The stairs are steep and the drop is sharp so the angels have to thread carefully. Gneleey make the first move down.

Followed by SunshineJune. Aircraft being the perfect gentleman stand by to catch them if they fall…[:D]

Then Lemon with her long legs reaching down to earth.

And finally SiewLing. They all made it safely down to the boat. We are now ready to go…[:D]

Everyone has gotten on board, have we? Wait there is still the live ammunition.

These precious cargoes are the last to be loaded on board but we don’t think they will last the trip.

It is now time to put on the life jackets…for actions are about to begin…[:D]

And Alex has not stopped shooting…[:D]

We are in safe hands. This is Captain Samat and the angels were so smitten with him that they called in their most melodious voice…,“Baanng Mat” once they got to know him. Would you believe it that he is already 49 with 5 grown up daughters? We asked him what is his secret and he answered with a succinct reply - “the sea”.

Just as our boat reversed, I caught sight of this kingfisher. I had no time to react for a close-shot as the boat was already moving out of sight. That is a good sign - for good fishing. After all, the kingfisher is not named that for no reasons…[:D]

Now everyone have found their seats and comfortably settled in. Life jackets were put on and cameras were taken out.

The boat reversed out into open water and gets ready to roll.

There is the hut and the jetty from which we embarked on our trip.

Kurau gave his signature salute to indicate everything is just dandy.

From the side of the boat, you can see the restaurant “Happy Village” next to it. This will served as your landmark should you want to get back there again.

Someday for nostalgic reasons, we will all come back to this restaurant to reminisce about old time when we made that trip to One Fathom Bank. I’ve spent a bit of time to portray in pictures the participants of the trip for I believe the most important factor of any trip and the people you went with rather than the trip itself. Whether you really enjoy a place has always been more about the friends you went with. We have a good group and a good mix and of course as a result we are going to have a good time irrespective of how One Fathom Bank turned out… The next part will be more about the journey itself. Stayed tuned for more…[:D]

To be continue…[:D]
