Congrats DocSyed for the good catch & its unfortunate that I could not join you. I noticed that the sea was very calm as well. Hope to join you next time.
I am the weatherman [8D]… I saw this pattern quite a while ago. The water was smooth with a soft breeze blowing, the temperature is also good for bottom and mid water. We had strikes on drifting and casting too. The fun of this trip was our using light gears and setup. The sagai and angkloli gave us a great fight
I think some word is missing here, let me try to finish the sentence ya… “I am the weatherman [8D]… <and a pro angler</font id=“red”>> I saw this pattern quite a while ago. The water was smooth with a soft breeze blowing”

When the last Tree is cut, the last River poisoned, and the last Fish dead, we will discover that we can’t eat Money…</font id=“size1”></font id=“green”>
The sagai was on live udang kertas, the Bara was on live tiger prawns (and so was most of the Angkoli)
My son was was the happiest on the trip, he got the Kerapu Bara, his biggest ever on his smallest gear
What our drifting live kembong came out as …

Chan our boatman unhooking the palm sized kerapu (released), his hardworking character is a huge credential, his knowledge of the spots … priceless

Doc,
IMHO, Chan is perhaps the most dependable boatman in Pekan. Even better then his brother, the Salt Fish. He really knows his spots and tackle to be used for the various caches. If you are looking for Angkoli, you cannot be in better hands!
Ah Chan is the brother of Ah Keong (the gila). Saltfish Tay did learned his trade from Ah Keong in his early days.
Ah Chan is a good compromise of the tekongs from Pekan. Ah Keong is for the hardcore types that had to get fish at all cost. Newbies would not enjoy his boat. Saltfish Tay is now on semi-retirement with his 2 sons running his boats. Both of them are excellent for light jigging type fishing. Ah Chan is a good natured tekong that always have his clients in mind and is more for the traditional bottom fishing and drifting technique. Newbies would enjoy his boat and good service.
Yes EK is very right, Mr Chan is a nice guy to both my friend Bob who only goes fishing once a year, he is very helpful and goes out of the way to help the newbie.
Following the many sms I received for the boatman’s number, here it is The contact number for Chan is 0129889823
Thanks Doc for the no and also thanks to Bro EK for the information shared.
