As I write this topic, I’am currently in Kuala Terengganu and just back from fishing session at Pantai Teluk Ketapang.
Got a Bad and good from this session.
The bad new was, I broke my 3pc Zziplex GB3 Heavy, probably the rod too soft for me, been training hard lately for the coming Distance Casting Tourney this 27th Dec. 2008. " Aji Aznaff told you that you better WATCHOUT" how you want to salam this tourney.
The good new, me, Junior and a friend port at the beach around 8.30am. The weather was briliant and the beach was deserted, since KT experiencing flooding a few days ago.
We used sotong as bite cut into long strip.
Five minute after the first cast, my friendGreys Triad bend and his Trinidad TN14 screeming. The fright lasted for 5 five and he land the first Pelutang, weight apprx. 1.7kg. Even though the it comsider small to the local standard but it give a good fright. then my turn, mt GB3 bended, landed approx the same size then followed Jr.
The hero caught the biggest of the day wieghing approx. 2.6kg, combine catch was 12 ekors, weigh ranging from 1.2kg to 2.6kg.
By 11am, we balik and below are our catch.

Belukang what is that, That B… fish now tak musim la anyway at TK very rare got that B… Fish la most of the time are quality fish landed here one. You know me la I’m an Casting Angler what, that why I always catch BIG FISH coz I cast FAR one hehehe..
Saw that you were using the Daiwa Saltis, that reel cannot go too far lah. Why don’t you use light line fishing pulak.
Use 0.30mm line on Abu 5500 ke…sure can cast miles. Then only got sport…your Daiwa reel minimum pun 0.40mm line right? That thick of a line 20kg fish also can pull.
Pity lah the petulang fish…give them a chance lah and have some real sport fishing. You are a casting angler ma!!!

wah broonn… marvellous catch hehe… anyway bang aznafff 'em catfish almost always look the same lah, well at least to me hehe… belukang, pelutang, bedukang, watever kang oso but catfish mah hehe… kalau kat melaka, will definitely make assam podeh super yummylicious
is it the same specs as mayong..my fren of mine caught one bfore around sekilo at buttewrth pantai bersih beach used live prawn. the janggut also diff from duri n blukang.
it looks like belukang to me…the stripes, the head so big and the rounded body..anyway that’s a good catch…i have landed one big one in kemaman before using KFC chicken…i released it to let it enjoy another day in the sea…hehehe
But the locals told me there are two types there.. I only remember the name Belukang.. With stripe & without different name. All the fish caught at Pantai Puteri Melaka last year.
Enjoy the fishing process… even I get NIL at the end.
Those with reddish tailfin could be pelutang…the others could be duri…belukang as mentioned normally darker in color, head is bigger and got stripes…let us see what other experts here can say…but all of them actually from catfish family laa…pelutang in huge sizes are generally lazat for curry..in Taiping people call it ikan plotan…very expensive maa…hehehe
Now you mention duri,I remember now the locals there says it is duri without stripes.. But my Nepal & Myammar sapu habis all the fish even the eel look a like.
BTW is petulang available at West Coast? Never seen it before. from Morib to Melaka.

In Taiping I see them mostly in the pasar ikan..most of them like 7 - 8 kg…the head if buat kari sampai menjilat jari…they must have gotten it from the deepsea…
but duri west coast plenty…have you tried kuala linggi bro?
I been to Kuala Lukut jetty but only end up feeding the crab and fish fry. A malay couple very good at Ikan susu, using gardenia bread.

My last night in KT before depart back to KL with 1 1/4 of left over sotong from thr 1st session, we decided to go for another trip, port at the same spot. the wave was approx 2-4 mtrs high, fortunately the wind have slow down.
After 10 minute of waiting my friend Greys Triplex bend and his Trinidad screeming.
The 1st fish wt 1.7kg
I landed this fish after my rod fly off the tripod, it only weight 2.10kg, not so big but they sure a fighter.
The followed with double hookup
Total Catch
It quite unfortunate for me as Jr. left our Head lamps at home, using a multiplier at night, a head lamp is a must, if not it will cause a havoc to you when reeling your line. I lost 3 terminal that night due poor line lay. By 12am deecided to packup, don’t want to lost more rig.
