The bearing is designed in such that it’s flat sided. When you place the bearing between the washers, would it cramp down to the bearing that it is unable to turn?
I did have the same concern initially. After changing the bearing, I checked the roller for its functionality. With the new bearing in place, the roller is able to turn much smoother compared to the initial plastic bearing that was in place.
Haven’t really tested it in real fishing situation though. Will know how the roller performs during the Raya trip. Just in case, I am still keeping the old parts. Hu knows mite come in handy.
rorytale, the washers seat against the inner race of the bearing, therefore it will not hamper the action of the bearing however tight u do the screw up. without the washers, the bearing will lock up against the roller itself and cause damage. just remember to soak that bearing with oil as it is the first bearing to go on most reels as it it the one bearing that is exposed to the most salt/fresh water.
If the washer is smaller than the outer diameter than it’s not a problem. But it’s showing clearly that the washer itself is already wider than the outer diameter..
Anyway, have a confirmation from bro KF that it’s working finely and somehow it did not force any friction onto the bearings..
by the way, i have been doing a lot of reading regarding reel modifications… hope to post some here later… anyway, do pay a visit to my blog… a lot of posting nowadays cos end of the yaer not much project…
rorytate.. sorry for the spelling.. in all my smaller daiwa reels, the little washer is smaller than the outside diameter. if u take the washer out, it will crush against the bail arm and bail lever arm causing it to sieze and not spin. if u order a bearing for any line rollers, make sure it is a corrosion/rust resistant bearing, don’t go for the cheap ones as they will only last a season of hard fishing and will fail when u need it most.
Yeah agree with you. It better be stainless steel bearings. I do modified my reels as well.
Did modify a 3 bearing BC reel to 7 bearings! The ultimate part of it is the ability to spin the spool, with a normal strength to spin using fingers, the spool spins for 1.5 minutes~!
