the pole is a shimano technium and cost no less than 300 quids, ie RM1500 at today’s prices. That does not include the elastic kit which would be easily another 50 quids (RM250).

It is an expensive way to fish

Hmmmm…prefer to see pole dancing instead of pole fishing[8D][8D][8D]</font id=“purple”></font id=“size3”>

Born To Golf
Live To Fish
Forced To Work

I do agree, and believe me the pole dancing bit is actually cheaper than pole fishing

EK, how about fishing in the North Pole???

Do let it be known, the Shimano Technium is in no way the top of the line pole. It is an average priced model at best. Poles costing more than 3 times that is available.

Even in China where pole fishing is also very popular, there are many poles priced in the range of RM1000 and above being sold.

Cheap pole fishing in China. I don’t think any of these rods cost more than $50. Very popular in china.

the catches are really small

another small fish caught

sad to see them jumping with joy even with such small catches. The water was also quite dirty. Looks like all catches end up for dinner.

Carry a rod and speak softly.

As with every where on earth, there are the cheap places that are popular and there are the not so cheap more exclusive places. I have been to a beautiful pond that had well built wooden gangway leading out to the water. At the end is a fishing platform large enough for 2 or 3 anglers. You should see the equipment these guys have. Almost all of them have those all built-in cold box with umbrella and metal arms / extensions and compartmental boxes for floats, rigs, sinkers and baits. Their hand-carved rod holders are exquisite and the variety of their baits are astounding. I was also suitable impressed by their fancy graphite poles. None of these items are in any way cheap.

FYI the bookings for the platform costs RMB600. And no, the fishing while is not too bad, there are no real big fish. Most are lampam-like small fishes and some 1kg carps. Oh yes, while there I did see a totally ecstatic guy who hooked a curut sized haruan. That is apparently the catch of the day if not the whole month.

EK,
well said. everything is relative - as per the theory of relativity.
if you live where there there are few big fishes, catching a small fish is still a joy.
A bit like golf. In the eighties a cheap golf membership in KL/selangor area is about RGT50,000 while I could join a golf club in Melbourne for A$300.
I do go to China regularly and have seen people fish where we wouldn’t even bother - the water quality and size of fish is just too poor. But the locals are really enjoying themselves.
I have also seen reasonable size fish being caught in the Klang river just opposite the Vistana hotel. They are about 600g to 1kg! I was really surprised.

Would love to be in a position to secretly smuggle in a few hungry adult Pla Buks when nobody was watching.

The video rights to the fellas having their underpants pulled off would be worth quite a lot I can imagine [:p][:p][:p]

Hmmm … just jealous lah.

Mike,

if you do manage top bring in the plabuk,

  1. you may not get out in one piece
  2. the plabukwill definately be in multiple pieces if ever caught
