Baitfishing with live prawns.
Baitfishing with live mullet/belanak
Baitfishing with tamban/beliakmata
Baitfish with cabuk/anak ikan parang
Baitfish with live octopus/sotong kurita
Lures or Fly{i am yet to get one[:D]}
Fighting characteristics:
Always tighten slack line after a couple of bite. Stimulate bait is running away. Wait for the fish to strike, timing is very important, once the bait is taken, wait until fish moves away and swallow it before setting the hook. An extremely fast fighter, that often surprises with a few extra runs. Kurau have a huge mouth that can accommodate big baits and the ability to throw hooks
The most important factor is the tide, weather, tempeture, surrounding, bait presentation, water candition but the key word is still patient/sabar and a strong will. If you still don’t get one{Threadfin Salmon/kurau} please go and repeat again.
Identification:
Complete body covered with small scales.
Upper body grey-green, silvery sides and brilliant silver belly.
Dark edges on the tail and the large second dorsal fin.
Blunt nose and four threaded pectoral fins.
Typical location:
Shallow and calm water with muddy bottom in salt, brackish and semifresh water/air payau.
Went for some Threadfin/Kurau fishing recently(incl yesterday[:D]). Here’s some Pic of Port Klang Threadfin/Kurau fishing…[:D]
Firstly we have to go and find our live baits using handcast net(jala).
Than we’ll shot off to our favourite Threadfin spot
Port Klang Threadfin/Kurau
This Threadfin was caught by Openg(MFNer)
A whopping 23kgs Threadfin.Kurau
Sometimes we do get all the other species of Port Klang Estuary fish
SP, Kurau(Polydactylus quadrifilis) have a rounder body that Senangin(Eleutheronema tetradactylum) and their eyes and fins(incl the four finger fins) is different. The Threadfin mostly found in Malaysai Water is Kurau, Senangin, Gobal(which have the longest Fourfinger fins) and Senohong(Giant African Threadfin)…[:D]

Jerry, hunting for Kurau is not like going for sailfish or GTs. They won’t stay too long in one place and not easy to find. I would say the ratio of Kurau Hunting is - 3 trip, 2 come back empty handed…[:D]
Sails or GTs you can just use those baits found around ‘unjam’ ie Selayang, Selar, Kembung etc but for Kurau we uses live baits ie Prawn(thumb size) or sometimes Beliakmata(cousins of Tamban). Best time to go hunt for Kurau is during ‘Air Nyerong’ or went fast current turning to slow current time(not ‘Air Mati’), finding livebaits during these ‘Air Nyerong’ time is back breaking with a hand castnet(no farm prawns pls). Not to mention the weather, water Condition and temperature, environments and all sort of factors…[:D]
One of the reason i seldom bring ppl for Kurau hunting is becoz after 1 or 2 trip without getting a Kurau, they say Port Klang no Kurau or ‘you must be very lucky in order to get one’ or something like that…duh…[:p]

KK, is it possible to catch kurau on daytime? It seem like very tough to get this kind of fish on the daytime. I’ve been to Pot Kelang for several of time and still no news from the kurau.
I believed you can becoz i’ve landed few during day time too(esp those ‘Port’ workers[;)]). Maybe yr spot is wrong or water condition not rite(many other factor)…[:D]

No problem. I understand thoroughly the nature of fishing. Sometimes you get and sometimes you don’t. Even if you don’t get the fish, the company and atmosphere is just enough to make ur mind relax. [:D][:D]

Yes Jerry, the Macallan type of company…hahaha…[:D]
