Question: Abu 4600C3

Hello all sifus and otais! Just wondering if anyone has used the Abu 4600C3 reel before and have any comments/complaints/compliments on it. Your input/feedback is highly appreciated. Thanks!

When the buying stops…the wife will be happy

Hai StewartK, i’m not sifu or atai but i am using Abu 4601C3 for almost 7 years on almost every fishing outing (especialy casting haruan and sometimes for siakap). For me the reel is simple and easy to service. After 7 years, the only part that need to replace is the handle because it loose/goyang already (but i still using it), nothing else (Of course i have to service it once a while)). It’s good for medium light tossing lure up to 4 gram lures including x-rap6 if we choose the matching rod. The new one (golden spool )use carbon matrix drag which is more than enough for the reel of it size. The only thing that bugged me after i buy this reel is the ‘tik-tik’ sounds (not that loud) from it idling gear but the sound almost disappear now. Smooth reel after i did a fine tuning. Overall, C3 give value for money and i never regret buy this reel. One thing to remember after you buy this reel is to give it thorough cleaning from factory over greasing. Use light grease and oil to the right parts of the reel and you feel much smoother.

Thank you for your insights delan08! From the sound of it the reel is reliable if well taken care of. Also the ability to cast medium light will come in handy with soft plastics. What rod did you match it with to do so? Thanks again delan08!

I match it with elcheapo rod Shakespear Intrepid 8 - 17 lb for haruan fishing especially when using big (and small) spinnerbait and spinner. When i fishing using soft plastic, i rig it with jighead or using small oblong sinker if i use wormhook (for extra weight) coupled with fenwick 4-12 lb rod.

I don’t have an appropriate tool (dremel tool), i just used an improvised 12v motor salvaged from car buffing machine (12v model)
