Giday from OZ! Joined this site awhile ago and have gleened lots of info from here so thought it’s time to give a little back.
We went for a quick fish to Portland about 350km west of our home town Melbourne last weekend to catch the tail end of the blufin season here. Fish at this time of the season are small but plentiful. Headed out Saturday morning with four mates and started trolling skirts and hardbody Xraps and Mack Maulers. Trolled for about an hour before the first hit which hooked up and came to the boat after a good fight on the Stella 10000 which was a little over gunned for these size fish. We then continued to pull another 6 fish on a combination of 8 to 15kg gear. The best was hearing the little Tiagra spooled with 8kg braid howl as a fin went for a long run.
Not quite the 80kg model we hooked last year but lots of fun and great eating. Back at the dock by luch time.
Looking forward to fishing Rompin in a few weeks time with Thomas. Will be good to be back in the home land again.
