Rapala tuning

Fred bro

Just to ask something. I am really a keen follower of Rapala and one tat’s addicted to it… Love it since i first started fishing.

Anyway wat i would like to enquire is, is Rapala still following the standard procedure of fine tuning the lure before packaging? The olden days the trusty rapala is 99.9% can be fished out of the box. however in recent times, new lures i’ve begin to find some out-tuned. Altho it’;s easily adjusted back however it’s a worrying traits for me

Have anyone encountered any similar issue pls tell, or is it my luring skill still in bad shape lol

And also, the lure ring they use nowadays are the silver ones unlike the bronze classic type. There’s not much issue here just tat the new ones are more prone to rusting compared to the old ones… Anyone have the same problem as well? I usually change them once rusted but just wanna know lol

Bro Tan,

All lure are still tank tested as before. There are cases of out of tune lures either due to terminal tackle used (too big or heavy) or the very few casts, you hit a rock or pillar (I am guilty of that).

The old bronze ring is actually weaker and more prone to rusting than the current stainless steel ones. If you are using in solely for freshwater, there is no need to take care of it.

However, when used in Saltwater, bronze or stainless steel, it is best to rinse it with freshwater, dry it with a cloth and leave it to air for 2-3 days before putting into the tackle box. This applied to all brand of lures and at times there are moisture inside our tackle box as well and that will help the rusting. [:D]

Fred bro,

Oh, my tackle are all 20lb and below(tat’s just the leader). Usually 12lb leader is the max for me, sometimes 4lb for leader too. Maybe cos i hit rocks too much lah. those diving lure harder to tune compared to the shallow version. Anyway i got the idea now thanks. I do use a snap btw, but it’s size 00’ so no problem, i’ve tried with or without the snap function the same, i wont bring it up without prior testing

Haha, no lah just the bronze one look classier tat’s all lol. I only fish in freshwater as u know, and most of the rapala tat i;ve used still rust at the ring(thanksfully not the wire). However not an issue i usually change them once i spotted some rust to avoid further spoilage. Well it’s due to placing back to tacklebox after each use i guess, however other rings or the upgrades are fine. Anyway, as i said just an minor issue here nothing to worry about!

Thanks again

Hi bro Tan,

All feedback are most welcome. Strangely i do not have this problem when I fish freshwater. i suspect the water you fished maybe brackish [:D][:D] One way to test, is to bring me there wa..ha…

I did not know you went so light in your leader system. As for me, I will use 8lb braided and with 20 or 30lb Sufix Superior leader. [:D]

Fred bro,

No lah just freshwater, might be polluted la tat’s y hahaha… but i can see fish strike my lures at times so u say leh hahaha. No prob bro edi promise to bring u there if u happen to be here lol

The place i fish all very ***** mah the fish and sometimes line shy. 12lb max lo, 10lb also good enough i use Seaguar or Vanish 10lb, 12lb Galis or Paradick, 8lb vanish(for baitcaster) Then for spinning i use 4lb Vanish, 6lb vanish or Seaguar, 8lb vanish, rare cases use 8lb or 10lb meant for bc lor.

Moreover i change my leader every trip, and cut out a lil after each fish. And one way to minimize broken leader is to always ALWAYS check for any nip or scratch, once cut off the scratched part only u fish! That way i seldom or touch wood, never really break b4 at leader!
