This is the Special Species Discussion (SSD) ROOM that is created to focus on a particular fish species for discussion for the month. Then after the closing period, I will lock this SSD room and it can be used for reference in the future.
I thought of this room after reading recently about Suresh13 posting in Need Help For Haruan, when he did an experiement to observe Haruan behaviour with his night vision camera – fascinating!
To begin with I have moved some Haruan related titles from BM and BI rooms here. At least for a start we have a reference. I am choosing the haruan for our first SSD discussion.
It is fascinating that after decades people still go after the haruan. In fact, some anglers are fanatic of this fish even though they are much better fighting fish out there. Maybe it is the stalking, maybe it is the sheer difficulty in casting in tough terrain or maybe it’s just an Uncle Gila Pancing who loves the haruan more than his wife. The haruan is like the license fish for all Malaysian anglers – you need to catch one at least in your life. So let’s start our first SSD topic on the popular and hardy HARUAN or SNAKEHEAD.
I hope this SSD room is useful for you.

Thanks Geno. Hope many will benefit from this. They are just too many “sang yee low” (Cantonese for haruan man for those who needs to know) outside to ignore the call of the haruan. Even sometimes I myself would really love to sneak an accurate cast in-between tight snags in a hope for a booming haruan explosion.
Interestingly, I’ve met haruan kakis from really all walks of life and profession; from corporate heads to teachers to square people like myself. During our MFN Tawau trip, we also envied at how lucky Barraliew is from his work site – just stride for a few minutes and you have a mini-Kenyir like pond. And best part of all, not many fish Haruan in Tawau. So Barraliew (originally from KL) and the rest of the OH, have a field time casting for it. And mind you, the Haruans there are big!

vincent, thanks for being so considerate in creating this section. now i dodn’t have to browse all over for my favorite topic and fish. everytime i eccess this forum, haruan topics will be my first stop! period! others can wait.
i think we share the same luck with haruan and spinnerbaits. never caught any! but i learned a lot from reading marlin’s marvelous postings. i even printed them and keeps them for furhther reading and compare his writings with what experienced while trying out his techniques. i win some, i lost some but i’m learning…
thanks again…

Thanks for intergrating all threads regarding haruan fishing in one place. Sometimes it is not convinience to jump from one thread to another, especially if there is a question for answer. It is also easy for other forumer to do the reference too.
People go after haruan due to its habitat which sometimes nearby their home, even in the city. Haruan takes almost all sort of lures (hardbait, softbait) other than traditional baits, frog. It is easy to teach people who want to start lures fishing with haruan.
Again, thanks for your effort in consolidating the threads
thanks vincent..
2, 3 times a week i must hunt for haruan…
but its not yet satisfying me on hunting them
i’m still learning the art of casting technique to enjoy it..
pacman prof.. sometimes we win and sometimes their lost hehehe
That’s the thing why does someone like lutut must hunt for haruan 2 - 3 times a week? Fascinating, isn’t it. I observe a lot of freshwater anglers very “gemar” for haruan, even though they can catch other popular species.
Let’s hope this SSD on Haruan will be beneficial to all then.
Regards,
Vincent

May you please transferring the thread ‘Jejaka Pemburu Haruan 2’ from Laporan Memancing to here. Usually, we update this report after we went hunting for haruan in various places. I will try to inform Cikgu Anamis (currently in training) about the transfer.
I am not gonna move the fishing report threads on haruan but only those live haruans threads outside the Report Section. Well, reports I rather they stay reports while anything else on haruan I will put it here. Besides this Jejaka Pemburu, if you have any other threads that you have participated in for haruan do inform me here and I will move it.
I SMS Cikgu and he is now heading his school football team so now fishing for this week. Have to be football coach now.

Thanks for the consideration. May be it is not a good idea to transfer it since we will update as time goes along. Cikgu also gives a same opinion since the section in only open for a month
lutut hunt for haruan 2-3 time a week, i went for them almost everyday, weather permits! except for wednesday when my children dragged me to the pasar malam. since i got to know to SPs (not Shatha Prakash, you know, OK? BTW, i wonder what he’s up to now?) and SBs, katak is no longer a deciding factor.

Bro Vincent, a very well decision and kudos to you for opening this section. Hopefully, i can soom capture the vide of the haruan in action. Its quite hard cuz i have to sit motionless. Any motion and the haruan gets spooked! A different story if it was reared in the aquarium since a juvie. Anyways, i’ll do my best to get a video going! A video beats a textual explanation any time! Thanks again for opening this section!

unfortunately i got no time for haruan, not only haruan other fishes too hehehe. maybe one fine day, i will contact haruan sifus like cikgu anamis, archer & others.
love to eat haruan, for the past few months I was busy looking for haruan for my other half, she had her operation for the sixth time, baby I love you.
i bought janggut (spinnerbait), soft plastics but still virgin. Cikgu Anamis, can i join you one day?
To Vincent, thanks for the section, it opens more doors for me to contact sifus, to learn more techniques, to understand haruan behavior, easy to access the section and hopefully next will be KELAH section.
Hi everyone! Im a newbie to this forum. Get to know MFN in a fishing magazine. Hunting for haruans almost everyday recently cos have a lot of free time during the period of waiting a job to commence. Im a beginner in fishing haruans and used to use live frogs as bait. But after reading forums in MFN, I got to know spinnerbait, artificial frog and SPs. Full of curiosity and excitement, I’ve bought Bakau Mini Cat black-white spinnerbait, Eupro 7cm artificial frog and some ‘not-so-branded’ 8cm grub lure. The problem is, none of them catch a single haruan, nor got a bite. And I still have to rely on live katak to land fishes. What’s going wrong? Any opinions?

By the way, how to upload photos to the forum? I would like to display the lures. Thank you!
