Real poison from Megabass... (or is it not)

New from Megabass, a souped up Daiwa Steez 100SH. Let’s take a look at the features breakdown:

11 BB and I RB (similar to stock 100SH)

7.3 gear ratio (increase of 0.2 over stock 100SH)

78cm revolution ratio (75cm on 100SH)

152grams (160grams for stock 100SH)

ito engineering carbon handle and aluminum knobs

Price: USD$629 (japantackle.com)

Apart from the megabass branding and megabass etching and other superficial upgrades and the additional red accents over the stock Steez 100SH, is Yuki Ito running out of ideas? the color scheme is identical to the stock 100SH, the spool inductor on the 100SH is a supertuned version Magforce-Z already. So, what else can be done to an already supertuned production reel?

Here comes the interesting bit… do these insignificant upgrades warrant the USD$629 price tag? My take, YES!!! For starters, a stock Daiwa Steez 100HS cost USD$659 (japantackle.com). the IS73 is actually a bargain considering an ito engineering carbon handle alone cost more than USD$100 (not that it’s any different to the I’ze, RCS or even the R-edition Alphas swept carbon handle marketed by Daiwa). That’s just without the additional cost of the rest of the upgrades on the IS73. Not that i’m desperately in need for those slight upgrades over the 100SH. If i have a 100SH, i’d be perfectly happy with it. but if i’m looking for one currently, I’d say that the IS73 is a real bargain considering that you practically get all the megabass and Ito treatment virtually free [:D]! if I were to dream about getting myself a Steez 100SH, i might as well give up on the idea and settle for an IS73 instead. Most of all, as the popular saying goes… (regardless of price to performance upgrade ratio) it’s an Ito!!!

Check this : http://www.tackletour.net/TTForums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=49367 , should one buys this then keep the reel for show only lest you need spare parts which Megabass dont stock .

Don’t let that particular thread scare you. I would say that most of the internal spares are readily available through Daiwa Japan. For limited edition Megabass exclusive or Daiwa-based Megabass reels, external spare parts are just harder to come by and that’s a fact. The guy that posted the thread could well have contacted Megabass USA. Possibly not Megabass Japan. Not carrying spares is a jokes. But for the IS, who needs megabass anyway when they can go to Daiwa for spares [:D]
