The Raya holiday Labuan trip last weekend was simply too good to forget. So when Kong called to see if i was intrested to join him for toman again the following weekend, i knew i could not pass it on.
You see, after the previous trip, I just counldnt get the scenes out of my mind. How the toman came out rolling the surfaces, how they notice your surface lure/fly, how they turn around and strike like a torpedo… and how they miss it / trow it away before you can do anything…
oh yes, I was such a sissy. I could not acept the fact that after so many stikes, the number of toman i landed with a fly rod was… Zero, None, Kosong, Yeelik, Boh!
I blamed it on the size 1 tiny hook that used to look big to me. I blamed it on the gurgle fly that i modified from a deciever and a piece of foam i found in the Owner treble hooks packaging, tied the night before the 2nd fishing day. Heck, i even blamed Henka for being too noisy although everyone knows he is!
I just could not get it out of my mind… no mood to work, foods were tasteless, colours they seem so dull… Until I land one of these on fly, i wont feel right.
And so last Saturday morning when the other 3 Otekers were out to fish for Blackbass in Tawau, I woke up at 6am to catch the first ferry to Labuan… which i missed. Had to wait for the next one at 10am[:I].
…and at 4pm i finally get to touch the water. For the 2 hours of fishing, there were no visible toman rolling at the surface
as they used to. Kong and his brother in law caught 2 on diving lures, but both ran into snags, one line-brust and the other strighten the trebles… The surface gurgle flies i tied for the trip were useless..
And so I thought my 2nd trip was screwed…

The next morning…

Went out again…

Again, no much surface action.. so i decided to cut off the gurgler and swithed to Decievers.

Baaam! Fish on !

Finally!!

now i can sleep! [:I]

Another one prefered a Delhberg diver…

..even swallowed it…[B)]

40lb bite tippet.. after one fish…[B)]

Some flies i used… outbeat lure-casting… Kong in the same boat caught 0 with lure that day…[xx(]

Electric Trusters can get you close to your prey quietly…

Thanks Patrick for his hospitality for the past 3 weekends. I must say i admire his life style. Here’a a pic of his farm, which includes a few kambing, a monkey, chickens, 2 beautiful dogs that go to the beach to swim by them self everyday, a mangrove river with all the mudcrabs you can catch… and hell lots of boats !
Good bye Labuan, I’ll be back with a 4wt flyrod soon [}:)].
Cheers.
