Rompin DT frenzy!

This is an annual fishing trip to K.Rompin. Every year without fail, we will visit this water at least twice a year. This time around myself, James, Melvin, Hennie, Tony n Joo made it for the trip.

We heard news about the frenzy of Ebek from our ever trusted captain Mr. Steven Choong 2 days before our arrival to K.Rompin. First day started off fabulously. We hit off early to park at the hot spots due to over crowded boats that’s also heading for the same spot. First live prawn was lower down by Hennie n was taken within seconds. Lines keep peeling off from her shimano reel and her new Lemax red sword amour bend to a disturbing sight, 90 degrees touching the water. 10 minutes later up came a beautiful DT. Soon after, we keep hitting DT after DT so as the boats around us.

The highlight of the day was when we were about to end our day. Two rods were hit simultaneously. And the one way ticket train began to travel! We had no chance of stopping it n only can hold on to our rods. We were guessing what could it be? GT? Cobia? After 15 minutes of back breaking fight, up came two handsome Ebek Kapak. It was the largest I have seen for a long time. Captain joke that the DT have migrated from Pekan to Rompin water. Hehe.. [:D]

Second day was different. We had enough of the DT fun and went to look for Sails instead. We had a miserable time looking for bait fish. As most of know, no bait fish = no sailfish. We manage to find some n drifted it out in no time. It was taken after some time. The fight was suprisingly short. No wonder is short, is only a baby sails about 7 to 8kg. We did some popping n jigging as well. Sails were also surprisingly in quite a huge numbers this time of the year. As we can see them hitting our poppers but fail to have a proper hook up. If we would have more baitfish, we could have land 10 pieces or more easily. 3 pieces was landed that day.

Enjoy the pics. Cheers!

Regards,

Jerry [:D]

Thanks. It was indeed a marvelous trip. As what we experience, for rods, anything above PE2 will be sufficient. Line 20lb will do the job. And for reel..anything above 2500 will do the job pretty well.

The best time to go would be the beginning of the year for ebeks. But the fish is quite unpredictable..sometimes they are there, sometimes not. So to be safe..u should advice the boatmen what is the fish activity there.

You can get Steven at 019-9895728. Cheers

Thanks for the info Jerry …
Steven is the boatman??
