Rompin/Pekan Top water lures.

Hi guys,

Any recommendations on what surface poppers/stickbaits for fishing sailfish around pekan & rompin? Trying to figure out what to bring along…

Thanks in advance

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh Sunny, u should ask Thomas…he’s the man u should look and ask for advise on sailfish…

a never without lure at Rompin is the classic Rapala Magnum Red Head, great for slow trolling.

Brudder Sunny . long time didn’t hear from you. Coming back for fishing . Right now the Sea Wave over in K Rompin is around 2 Meter height . Last week some of my buddies went with Jangkut , most of them got sea sickness due to the rough sea . In my opinion still Frsh Kembong /selar will do the job .. Kind regards

The proven top water lure is the HALCO ROOSTER POPPER 105 OR SLIGHTLY BIGGER SIZE. TO IMPROVE HOOK UP RATE IS TO MODIFY TWO SINGLE 3/0 HOOKS TIED BACK TO BACK AND COATED WITH EPOXY AND SECURE WITH A STRONG SPLIT RING AT THE REAR OF THE POPPER. Sea condition is improving, spanish mackerel and diamond trevally are coming in. Sails are also around. Good luck Sunny.

kenchen - Yes, coming back for fishing. I know live baiting will probably out fish lures but its more exciting watching a pack of sails chase down a popper/stickbait, especially when they’re getting airborne!

Thomas - What kind of 3/0 hooks? Could you please give me a brand and hook pattern? Halco 105’s or a bit bigger, I take it the same sort of sizing for stickbaits as well, so basically the kind of lures we’re working for tuna down here will do for sails. I won’t be there till mid-May, so still got a bit of time to get the gear ready.

The Gamakatsu 510 open eye for easy work with the split rings. Insert two hooks back to back and close up the eye. If you cannot find it at your end, let me know.
Most straight shank hooks also can, but have problem inserting the split rings into the small eyes.

Thanks Thomas, I’ve got plenty of those hooks, I thought I’d die with them, but now can put them to use. [:p]

Do you have any Owner Aki hooks?

Those Gama 510 open eye are damned good hooks, applicable for for a lot of rigging.

I do have the OWNER AKI,1/0 TO 8/0.
