Hey guys. Just got back from Kuala Rompin for 3 days of sails fishing. Just wanna share our amazing experience. We were there for 3 days of fishing. This time 6 of us went for this trip. Jerry,Hennie,Leo,James, Phillip and Melvin. As usual we depart KL to K.rompin on friday evening to spend a night and the next day start fishing. As most of you know, the sailfish season off K.Rompin began every August till Nov.
Expectation was high as I have been calling our Boatmen Steven almost everyday one week before our departure date. He informed me that the sails are swimming happily in large numbers around K.Rompin water.
Day 1.
We shoot off to the fishing ground 8am sharp from the under renovation familiar rompin jetty. We notice that the sea was really calm. With only very mild waves. After 30 minutes of boatride, we reach the first spot to collect some live baits. Baitfish were not around in huge numbers and we have difficulty gathering enough bait for a day fishing. After about an hour, we decided to make a move to the sails spot after steven advice us we could fish for the sails and also gather some bait at the same time. When we reach our first spot, we were happily welcome by at least 30 to 40 sails swimming around the boat. James first bait out was taken within 5 Minutes. It was lost after fighting it for quite sometimes. No worries, we still have many around. Many hooks up occur and we did land 7 sails on day 1 with more than 15 hooks including one on popper by me. It was a thrilling experience seeing the sails chase after your popper and wham.. miss.. come back for it again…strike.. perfect hook up and the sheering run began. About 5pm we call it a day. Here is the pics.

Day 2.
To keep the story short.. day 2 was another fantastic day. Reach the fishing ground around 10 am..start fishing and many double and triple hook ups occur. We have many different mix variety a well. Like a lone ranger tengirri on live bait by leo and a huge mama todak. We had many takes on jigs and popper as well But all throw the hook after fighting it for about 10 seconds. Total sails landed for the day was 9 landed with about 17 hook ups. 1 Tenggiri on live bait, many kerisi and grouper range from 500 gram to about 1 kilo. 4 green eyes squid and a 2 arrow squid.

Day 3.
Last day of our trip. Was suppose to do some bottom action today but then the action was so good at the sails spot yesterday we decided to go out back there again. We can still fish for bottom fishes and drift for sails as well. The sea is quite rough today compare to the last 2 days we were fishing. Reach the sails spot.. first drift didn’t provide with anything. Was quite surprise. We procedeed to look for the sails. Only till about 10.20am did melvin hook up the first sails. I then went in front to pop for some sails after seeing the birds around.. Never did i expect a silver flash suddenly appear from the depth and whack my popper! I strike and it was a solid hook up. After a few runs, it was gaff. Is a tenggiri. My first tenggiri on poppers. Was very happy. Continue to pop.. suddenly another take..took a jump. I shouted dorado.. no mistake as it was my fav fish. It manage to unhook itself and took a dive.. was quite dissapointed. Then the action was slow.. as the bird depart the area and dunno fly where. Many huge todaks disturb our bait. We hang around for about an hour or so. Steven took us to another spot about 20 mins away. We drift out our live baits.. no take. Waited.. then steven took out his squid jig. First drop a green eye grab on it. We suddenly change into the sotong mode! Haha.. Everyone was dropping the squid jig..we caught about 5kg worth of squid that day with the biggest about 1 kilo. Leather jacket was caught as well and it taste superb. Total for 3rd day is 5 sails landed with 8 hook ups. Green eye squid about 5 kilo. Leather jacket 3 pieces. Numerous kerisi and groupers.
