The rod is good for that kind of budget. Suitable for all rounder.. As I try one from Northern Pro in Chai Leng Park.. Grab it while you still can.. Ryobi seldom produce rod.. Regret I did not buy it last time and choose Veritas.. Sigh…

Hooi, you said you have tried it before, so from your experience, which is a better rod, stardust or veritas. ive seen veritas at a few stores, but it did not interest me, as the pistol knob, or watever it is called, doesnt really fit my small hand and it is quite pricey.
However, ive had short listed a few rods that caught my attention. abu hornet stinger(pricey yet tempting), rapala predator(priciest but its equipped with titanium fuji rings [:p]), ryobi stardust 10-25lb and last but not least, abu ryoku ikazuchi but something is not right with tat rod, feels like its using cheap stuff with fake woven carbon fibre.
if u hate fuji ACS reel seat like me, just shortlist all the rods with ACS seat, no point even thinking of buying it makes u hate fishing more…
otherwise if buy a rod n refit with other reel seat gonna cost much more
just a suggestion… save money too

bro, it really depends…if you are talking about two pieces rod, then to change out the reel seat from stock to the one you like ain’t gonna cost you a lot…well, i am talking about changing to fuji seat, not something exotic…it will only involve removing one line guide…

For me, I will buy Ryobi Stardust rather than overpriced Abu. That time, that Ryobi was booked by someone, so with that budget, I go for Abu.
With fuji reel seat and fuji guide, that rod suits me, who is always tight in budget. Sadly though, my lady of luck is not beside me, so I have choose Veritas instead. No fuji is sucks! LOL XD

Abu hornet for rm350 n below is cheap already guys… go to Japan n look at the price urself
btw if it’s a 2 pcs rod… ready to pay roughly rm50+ for changing of reel seat, which, if the rod is rm300 i’d go for Hornet without second thought

I saw a few Abu hornet which has priced below rm350, but the thing is those are spinning rods, as opposed to Abu hornet casting rods, which are priced at RM390 and above. Its too much for me, well, unless u know (TJS) where i may acquire the price stated by you.
Hooi, even though i never owned those rods, but i do concur with you, Abu is quite overpriced. Ryobi’s spec is the same or better than ryoku ikazuchi’s (in terms of rings & seat) but the only thing that i do not know is the material of both blanks.

well,if you prefer stiff action rods, then you can choose Abu instead.If you like medium tappered action then this rod will do. Toughness?that depend on how you handle the rods,I dont have problem lifting GT and toman using this rod. But trust me, you will love this rod!
Bro Rapala sangkut is correct. Depends on how you handle the fish with your rod. I would say 10lb -25lb rod will handle most games fish well, but pls don lock your drag la.. Hahahahha… Cheers with your incoming Ryobi~~

Well, that will not be the case as I never ever tighten my drag to the fullest, hope in the future as well. But what troubled my mind actually was that ive tested my brother’s fenwick gt rod, and after a few twitch, the rod turns to be three-piece rod instead of two, darn, and i had to replace the rod but thankfully i bet to buy half of the rod at 55% of the actual price. And this is why i’m turning up to you guys for opinions and suggestions. Thank you everyone for your help.
Would it be the joint is losing?? For 2 pcs rod, normally I will check after several cast. A few cast, then the joint will lose abit. That’s the weakness of 2 pcs rod.
But there’s lot of factor can cause that rod to break. So I can’t comment much here. Any sifu can help?

for 2 pcs rod get quality ones the joint u can put some oil, but rmb to reapply n if u remove often clean n put in new oil can . if very troublesome even ur nose oil will do… just rmb to clean or else it might collect dust when u remove to 2 pcs

Okay, the rod broke mainly was my fault since it was not a field test, its just a home test, but what makes me quite disappointed how it can’t stand being bend even though it was a medium heavy rod. The test was done by hooking the line at the floor whilst i pumped it upward. 1st one was okay, second time still fine and suddenly the third, it becomes 3-piece rod. The drag of the reel, however, was not tighten to the max, or even near it. So i came with conclusion that graphite is freakishly brittle as opposed to fiber glass rods. Amazingly, my fiber glass rods can withstand such force, ive abused it couple of times, no, many times, yet it still remains as 2-piece rod.

Anyway, what are the weaknesses of 2-piece rod, and TJS, why oil those parts, i dun understand the significant in doing that, by oiling it, wont the joint be more slippery?
And one more thing, will 2-piece casting rod, its frontal piece will definitely turns? Cause now im using spinning rod for my baitcast and it always turns sideways after a few throws. [:(!]

That’s why people often choose 1 pcs for casting. No headcache. But when you reach tight spot in jungle, then you only start to curse yourself why you did not stock any 2 pcs rod.
Each rod has their own strength and weakness. For me I prefer 2 pcs, because of transportation. But I have my own car, of course 1 pcs rod is my first choice, but I still will stock some 2 pcs. Who knows later on, someone might offer me some cash to go Belum jungle fishing or other exotic place.. hehehehe…
But still, it is only my humble opinion, only worth 1 cent. We need to have other sifu’s advice. [8D]

put me off multi pc rods - i find the feel different but it could be psychological [:p]

i son’t know how to explain why placing oil is good but i just happen to read it n tried myself, i felt it’s better… think it got to do with the oil being light, and small in molecule size, able to occupy even the smallest area, thus lessen the amount of loose space between the joints, making it a tighter fit… i think it’s water tensionphysic, but this time it’s oil(liquid physic)

Hurm, so even if i bought a 2-piece casting rod, the frontal piece will still turns? Having one piece rod is not going to be possible for me since i move around a lot, 2 places basically, but still travelling with a 6-feet rod going to be troublesome for me.
Well TJS, i will try to do your trick as soon i can get my hand on some oil. So i just “lumur” the oil on the joint before assembling the rod isit? Correct me if im wrong, thank you. Btw, how about if i use grease instead of oil, is it going to do the same trick?
