Last week we landed 5, they are always around
wherever there are food, especially those unjams [Fads] with plenty of selar, tamban, kembung, selayang, etc… We were targeting tengiri when the sails came around to entertain us.
Hook-up during trolling using pinkie pentail…

Uncle Thomas bro,
How to do CPR for sail?.. heard of 2 way:
1.Holding his tail, push and pull his head into the water few time and straight away release it
2.Holding his sword while the boat cruising…
Hope can make it better next time do CPR…

Hold the stump of the bill with the fish upright while the boat is moving forward slowly to let water flowing into the mouth, this will allow oxygen to pass through it’s gill, the boat can increase speed gradually about 3-4 knots, by now you can feel the fish closing it’s mouth [biting] on you hand, this is the time to release the fish.
It will swim away healthy to fight another day.
wow…uncle thomas, that’s a very nice underwater shot of the sailfish! like watching NATGEO… kakaka… cheers!

That under video clip was taken by F2R2, holding the camera just below the surface, credit should go to him.

I can understand some fishos may like to take the fish out of the water for some kodak moments especially if that is your first sailfish. We have all done that some time before. However, it is best that the fish is to be unhooked and released without it being taken out from the water. I have seen many a time that the boatman or an experienced fisho is able to grab hold of the beak and only partially lifting the fish from the water and a photo is taken.

This was encouraged at the RPBIC 2009. The picture showed Charles and Daryl registering their catch.
if a fish is taken out of the water, it should be released as Uncle Thomas had suggested.
