My submition to the World Tuscany Open in the fishable Sardina Pilchardus category:
And yes - Tim Wholand was the inspiration for the head. The head is a combination of materials. I started out with a piece of foil paper by a company named Jones Tones (http://www.jonestones.com/). They have all kinds of cool stuff that fly tyers could integrate into their patterns! So I cut a pice of foil paper and sprayed the dull side with 3M’s Super 77 spray adhesive (this stuff is great for fly tyers) and attached a peice of thin clear vinyl sheeting to give it strength. I then cut out the shape and added the eyes. Note - when cutting the shape out I left a “tail” at the front of the head so I could tie on the hook. Before tying on the hook I dipped the head in very thinned out softex for more protection and strength against toothy critters. Once dry I tied it in by the tail added softex to the “inside” of the head and folded it over and held together for a few minutes with my fingers till it dried. Body is mostly Enrico Puglisi fibers with a little of this and that added in too.
