SEAFISHING BOOSTER

Hey uncle thomas. About the trip to terengganu oilrig that u posted, do u know any other boats that provide better accomodation on board?

I heard from Steven-rompin that the boat they were on was a nightmare to sleep on. Plus the toilet facilities is really bad. Me and my kakis are interested to plan a trip there but then by hearing the journey there would take about 21 hour, would appreciate if a better facility boat is available. Thanks in advanced. Generally, che Mat’s boat is quite acceptable depending on how you look at it, non aircond cabin, squating toilet is the basic things that any hard core anglers have to accept. That boat is very stable and seaworthy on the high sea, most important thing, che Mat will bring you to catch your GT. This sector with such boat is considered good, there are more places with worse facilities and yet anglers don’t complain. On the lighter side, Steven may be trying to scare you, so that the GTs there won’t be educated so soon, heheheh !![:D]

The cabin is a two decker, with the roof top covered with canvas , it is advisable to bring your own sleeping bags and air pillow. To fish in comfort, it is recommended 8 anglers and you need to organise where to put your things. I have seen the worst of complaints on comfortable sleeping places occupied by tons of bags and bazookas. Che Mat’s boat is considered a comfortable boat in that area, you have to organise it to make it comfortable.

Talking about Makassar, there are three spots available for the coming trip from 17th to 22nd Oct. are you interested?

Hi Guys,

Above are pictures from last week trip made by XZOGA TEAM to Freementle for the SAMSON EXPEDITION. They were on board SALTWATER CHARTER WA under the guidance of Capt.Craig who took them out to a spot about an hour and a half from Freementle, the dept was about 120 meter, strike zone from 100 to 80 meter. Jigs used were from 300 to 500gm. All the XZOGA RODS FROM PE4 TO PE8 were put to the extreme punishment by the Sambo from 30 to 50 kg. The highlight of the trip was by Steven Chong who was connected to a big mama sambo which was made an easy lunch by some notorious sharks. Steven reeled up the head which was estimated to be about 30kg. It was good fishing by any standard, everyone had a fair chance of fighting with the samson which attributed to numerous multiple hookups.

THIBODAUX , La. --A medical student who blindfolds his friends to keep his favorite offshore
fishing spot secret has come up with a record-beating fish – a warsaw grouper weighing 359.1
pounds.

The giant hauled in by J.J. Tabor of Thibodaux is 12 ounces above the previous Louisiana state
record, a state biologist confirmed.

It’s been cut down to fillets. The first fillet weighed 53 pounds, Tabor said.

He caught it near an oil rig 70 miles south of Fourchon, in 400 feet of water.
He won’t give a more specific description.

'It’s J.J.‘s secret,’ said Joey Rodrigue, a friend from Baton Rouge who joined Tabor and
Tabor’s father, John, on the record-making trip Saturday. ‘I don’t even know where I was.
He blindfolds us on the way out.’

Tabor said he thought at first that his hook with a live hardtail on it had hit the bottom ‘until
I felt the big head shake’

Rodrigue steered away from the rig.

‘I put myself in a harness and just had to lay back and fight,’ J.J. Tabor said. ‘It was about
a 15 or 20 minute fight.’

Tabor cleaned the fish late Monday afternoon outside his father’s auto repair shop in Thibodaux.
‘We’ll split it up,’ he said. ‘I’ll make some phone calls and try to get rid of it fresh.
The rest, we’ll vacuum pack it and cook it later.’

Tabor says he believes the fish is about 33 years old. He plans to send an inner-ear bone
called the otolith to a university in Florida where researchers can help determine the age
of the fish. He hopes to get the results in about four weeks.

The world record, caught off Florida in 1985, is 436 pounds, 12 ounces.

Paste here for those who like to imagine if this is the biggie lad that he will catch next time

Aiyo mak.. I need to go fishing!!

I wish there are samson fish like that in Brisbane… Good catch.

Looks like the East coast fishing fever is on again, with several hardcore anglers braving 1 to 2m waves at Sedili, Pulau Pemangil and Rompin. On 26/02/09 I accompanied two other friends to Rompin, the weather was fine, but hot, sea condition was still choppy, but tolerable. Fishing was good with light tackles versus the king, queen and sails, let the action pictures tell the stories:

Hi.. Me and My frens are going to Terengganu this coming 10th April. We have rented a boat to go out to see for night fishing till the next morning.

Now I would like to know, what are the standard requirements for the line or even the rod and tackle.
I do have a few rods and tackle but it is mainly used for pond fishing, so i am afraid that it might not hold.
Do i really need a braided line with wire leader?

What sort of fishing technique is best to catch some nice size fishes?

WELCOME TO MFN FORUM.

Good luck on your trip, looks like you will be hitting the sagai, diamond trevally, golden trevally, tengirri , parrot and GTs.
Your pond outfit is sufficient, if you have good braided line of 200m of 20lb with mono leader of 30 - 40lb. Bottom fishing is the norm with live prawns or tamban as baits. If you want to target the tengirri, you need steel trace, your boat man can tie for you, live bait is the best for the spanish mackerel.

www.jdartac.com

It was a cloudy Monday morning [30/03/09], the sea was quite choppy, but we planed on with some sore butts when we reached the bait catching unjam. We managed to catch about 30 selar in 30 minutes before we plied on to the fishing ground, but on the way, we saw big swirls and Sky shouted GTs, I let go a Williamson silver/blue skirt for a 8 knot troll and let Hakim to hold the rod, and before I could rig up another set, the Ambassaduer6500 screamed and Hakim handed the rod to the rightful owner Jonathan to fight the fish. It was pump and crank workout for Jonathan who was using the multiplier for the first time, trying to reel in the fish clumsily with his left hand and after retrieving a 100m of line we could see a silvery flash about 20m away, GT GT, commented Sky, no it was a Sagai when he gaffed the fish, see the picture, not bad for the first fish of the day.

The Sagai was a booster and soon every one were doing real fishing with earnest as we drifted along with live selar. Jonathan had another strike, something was jumping at a distance, chey todak, I commented, but no the stripping of line is fast and strong, not todak, but what was that ? See Jonathan fighting the fish.

Heheh, Jonathan’s second fish, it was a beautiful queenie.

Then it was Ryan’s turn, he had a big strike with the TS ROD, that bugger almost broke Jonathan’s light Stroker, look at the way he bent the rod as he tried to surface the fish for Sky to grab the leader with Jonathan looking on worrying at the sight of the bent of his rod, phew !!

It was another queenie.

Then Hakim got a big strike, a queen jumped at a distance, come on
‘pump the queen’ some one commented, haha everyone LOL. See another beautiful queen.

Then we had a double hook up, one by Ryan and one by Hakim, he got a coral trout more than 2kg, wow look at the double header.

Then Ryan again landed a small kaci and a parrot.

That was unusual , Sky landed a mother puffer which could not puff and blow, perhaps it was too old for bjob.

The highlight of the day, Jonathan managed to hook up his first historical sail with a light rod. See the bending of the rod.

Jonathan was smiling from ear to ear, look at that happy man who got his personal record.

After a snap shot, Sky revived the fish.

The sail was released and it swam upright away as we waved good bye.

It was the most memorable trip for Jonathan and his friends all first timers.

Hi Buddy,

Much as I would like to include you in one of the trips, but unfortunately for the months of JULY AND AUGUST, IT IS CLOSED SEASON
FOR INDONESIA DUE TO THE SOUTH WEST MONSOON, the sea is too rough for fishing. Could be September onwards, will let you know later. Thanks.
