Setiawan Monster Pond - Revenge Trip

Here is the result of the revenge trip.

This time around, only 5 of us (Innerzen, Jerrygk, Hennie, Bigfish, GT and Fizzy) manage to make the trip with 4sun pulling out last minute. The catch rate was better compare to the first trip with the weather being windier n hotter. Enjoy the pic guys. Cheers

Nice report Jerry,
Had a great time…never had so much fun at a paypond, the owners were also friendly and provided good service.
GT run was great, too bad it happen towards the end of our trip. Didnt manage to land any Cobias this trip…60lbs leaders were like dental floss to these brutes.
Great fun and even better company…until our next trip.

Fuyoo…nice pics Jerry. Thanks for posting my pics too. Will post some pics soon. Yeah…revenge trip was better than the first… good company, good weather and also not forgetting our two chapperons who were really helpful. Although it was a revenge trip, there was plenty of food and drinks provided (but didn’t have time to finish my lunch…heheheh).

Jerry…Bungsanram is waiting for u man. All u need is a plane ticket…[:D][:D]

good to hear that the revenge trip was fantastic :stuck_out_tongue:

Congrats, good revenge. haha

Nice catch, nice revenge… Well done guys…

Glad to hear that you guys enjoyed the revenge trip... any big Barramundi landed....coz from the pics i see those are not my Barra... too dark & too small to be the ones i released... we do have lots of feisty GTs in the pond...small in size, big on attitude. hope to see more pics...

thks guys…

The sixth picture presumably would be the barra that u released as it was the largest. The colouration of the barra could have changed to suit the water condition in the pond.

all use lures or what??

Bloodhound,

Only one or two slightly bigger barra was landed. I think not more that 4kg but we did lost count of how many small barra we landed.. Anyways plenty of fun. Landed abt 10 cobia’s as well. The grouper was so greedy..

which part of setiawan locate the fishing pond… it looks like near by the sea…

Wow…

Fantastic catch… pond some more don’t need to travel far out to sea to fight these brutes!! Is this pond only for friends and regular customers? Or everyone can get a taste of it by paying? I wish to go la, never catch such sea fishes before(no time ma)

Btw, where’s setiawan?

Barely a month after SPM i need to go college pulak, sigh! Give me a break!

Didn’t bring camera with us and if you can see from Jerry’s pics, Fizzy and I were right at the other end where we hunt for cobias only. Fizzy as usual was very focus and got countless hook ups with 3 cobias exceeding 13 kilos.

Me, I had more than 15 hook ups but lost about half of them. I brought two rods/reels set up, one loaded with FINS braided 30lbs but broke everytime there were a hook up, took me 6-8 fishes to realise it was the weak line before I switch to my other set using Spider wire 24lb. There after all hookups were landed. Wasted some time but I did have enough fun.

Life is too short not to live it a bit longer, give more line to the fish, Catch N Release

Ya BH, thanks to you for offering us baits and made our day. Will come back with lesser line lbs, first time kiasu ma. I think I got a bad batch of the Fins, could be on the shelf of the tackle shop too long.

Bait or lure fishing is not as important, Catch and Release is, and CnR in a gentle way. We hooked up a few cobias that have their lower lips torn, swollen and one even splited. We should stop using Lip Grip especially for cobias for they twist and turn a lot after landing. Our feedback to you.

Yup.. the two brothers were very helpful and we had a very good chat too. Promise me some tiger prawns from their 60 prawn pond. Hehehe.. No matter bait or lures, as long as we enjoy the fishing n happy then everything is fine. Afterall is all about customer satisfaction when you open up a fishing charter or pond rite? I think the two brothers really did a very good job and Aaron as well. Cheers [:D]

More Pics.

Indeed it was a great day. Sadly no pics from me (Raymond, when can you upload yours from your HP?)

I got a huge barra (siakap) early on on soft plastic. It was at least twice the size of any I’ve seen there before. It was sooo fat and solid - approx 9 or 10 inches deep (dorsal fin to belly) and about 3 feet long. It would be about 6kg+ i guess.

I got a couple of smaller barras too and a big 14kg+ (my scales bottomed out at 13kg) cobia all on soft platic before the lunch time switch to bait.

A few observations.

  • the main (closest to river) pond is still full of snags. The wood sticking up is gone (thanks) but there still rope and old nets down deep. I lost 6 lures in the 1st hour…grrrrr. Eventually went to carolina rigged weedless soft platics to get down to the fish without snagging up.

  • cobia and in fact any large fish intended to be released should not be lip gripped. More than half I saw had severe damage, not just torn as raymond mentioned, but broken jaws. These fish were very weak and hardly fought compared to a healthy cobia of the same size. For the longeivity of the fish and the business, I would recommend not using lipgrips but to provide ample (LARGE) landing nets for customers.

  • switching to live bait certainly improved the catches. I ignored the frenzy of the smaller GT and focussed on cobia all day. Ended up with 8 or so, 2 of them around 14kg+ and the rest 7-10kg ish.

  • after my bust off on the snags in the first hour, I think i only lost 1 fish as it went past the water wheel and cut the leader. I was using 14lb fireline and 40lb flouro leader.

  • it was a fun day out.

Dave, if there are future trips that needs to be filled in to make the numbers pls keep us posted.

Thanks

Congratulations to fellow anglers for the fruitful trip to Sitiawan. Looks like its a fun-filled event.
I’m sure someone somewhere is planning for a trip there now, soon…and im interested (again, pending on timing)..
