http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/product_info/language/en/products_id/7573/urethane-shock-absorber-3-5mm-50cm.html

anyone has tried this kinda rig before? and the clips on these shock absorber can tahan ke? wont it straighten?

Have not personally used it. But some other kakis used before.

They said it prevents solid hook-ups on our conventional bottom rig using spreader, especially if the fish is small.

Such shock absorber really only use for when you target Biggies.

See others using this type of shock absorber specially when they target grouper as we know grouper use brut force n try to find n go into any opening in rocks or sunken ship.

Urethane is a rigid type of material n is use for tiring out those biggies once it is hook.

Pete is right for saying it prevents solid hook ups coz urethane can strech much more than the leader we are using.

erm…

i try it be4, the rig can tahan and nice to use just some time the clip will open up if get some thing big…

thanks for the input. just to add to the discussion, if we use our conventional spreader normally seen in malaysia fishing scene, but pair it with circle/suicide hooks? would the hookup rate increase? but from the swivel clips i see attached to these shock leaders,i doubt it can withstand bigger fish and not straighten

Saltigagt,
hmmmmmm now that u mention circle/suicide hooks…in ur experience if compare to normal hooks how does circle/suicide fare???

for bottom fishing, thats the only kinda hooks i use, normally paired with a spreader.

When used with spreader, depending on the sinker used, typically
J-hooks or Suicide-hooks is better, especially when heavy sinker
is used. This is because the sinker act as the “auto-strike” when
fish bite. This obviously is not good for circle hook. Circle
hook needs the fish to run away with the bait and during that time
the circle hook will lodge at the corner of its mouth. Striking
or striking too early will only cause poor hookup and you lucut the fish.

When I was fishing at Burma Bank, we were using paternoster rig.
On a paternoster rig, the sinker is at the end, and likely the
weight is at 90 degree to the hooks. Thus, there is no “auto-strike”
action. So, in this case, the Circle Hook is superior here, as
the fish will be able to run away with the bait and properly
hooked with Circle Hook.
Also imagine hauling the fish up from 200m, with a solid mouth
hookup, you are less likely to lose the fish half-way.
I tried J-hooks and ended up losing many fishes on the first
day there, before I switched to Circle Hooks and issue solved.
And we are using MEGA sized Circle Hooks !
