Notice there’s lots more lure makers here already so lets maintain a list here so in future if we want to organise any events it will be easier to coordinate. And hopefully we can coordinate some bulk luremaking material buys in future. Aspiring luremakers are welcome to signup too (just put and asterik(*) behind ur name. Remove it when u have made ur first lure [:D] Actually consider urself a luremaker too like Dato’ Culky who invented his 100Plus tab tarpon “spoon” [:D]
Include a self introduction on ur luremaking experiences too if u want. Northern</font id=“green”>

Note: I’ll be editing this post to include ur details from time to time so no need to copy & paste entire list. After inserting ur details I’ll delete ur post to avoid clutter & having an expanded thread. Of course if u include some detail information of urself like a self-intro etc I’ll leave it there. </font id=“blue”>
I have been making hardbodied lure for quite sometime now (since 1990?). It all started because I cannot get anymore of RaPala FatRap Shallow Diver. In the begining it was just on & off, maybe not more then 10 lures a year. Now, one thing lead to another & right now it has become almost a major addiction.
The begining was just copying lures than I can’t buy anymore. As the interest, skill level and understanding of lures expand I begin to design my own lures to fit niche fishing conditions. Actually I encourage others who are not making lures to dabble in this fishing past time as when u learn lure-making, it increases ur understanding of lure, lure types and what makes a certain lure tick. This has help me tremendously in my lure fishing skills as well.
Enough about me for now lol, handing it over to u guys. Carve a finger & tightlines
Hi all. [:)] I’m new to this forum. Very addicted to the lure making topics here. Actually haven’t caught a fish on lure yet but already made one and in the midst of making the second. Will post the picture to ask all the sifus opinion.
it all started last year when i couldn’t get a casting plug
made 1 from broom stick w weight insert and it works [8D]
so i figure if i carve a lip (dont know what, how n where to get lip material) from the same block of wood it might swim
it does, but with some flaws - fisrt dose of pioson
while searching for website on lure making, made a few more top water lure (no need lips mar [:D]) and hv been getting contrasting result, more frustration and more poison dripping in
saw a familiar name in a forum - Fire Tiger
there on, was introduce to sifu Lapala and was given a crash course on lure making - major dose of poison
been bugging him since and still does, thks sifu [:)]
it a wonderful feeling when u can turn a piece of wood into a swimming , fish catching lure.
How addictive is lure making??

applicable to me also, hehehe...
How addictive is lure making??
1. made 2 trips up north to visit sifu LP (never make it but will make it soon)
2. stay home every night to make lure (my wife like this scenario)
3. spend more time watching lure action then actually fishing
4. writing this during office hour (causing my jobs always pending, haha)
5. weekend also spend time at home painting lure (kalau hari panas)
6. my electronic lab became lure lab (with serpihan kayu berterabur sana-sini)
7. go to tackle shop to buy only treble hooks instead of lures
8. sakit dada asyik hidu spray... uhuk uhuk...
just involved in this new hobby since this lure making section is opened. average one lure/keychain per week. never make own design, always copy from others and do some modification (not to improve it but to simplify it, hehehe, malas wooh)

Started building lures because of this forum, its FT tutorial to be exact. Never use lures b4. Infact dono how 2 use also. The closest thing 2 a lure that i’ve use is a katak.(love 2 fish haruan) Been gettin lots of info here. (Thanx guys) Been carvin every night. Susah at 1st, but it keeps gettin easier,by practice.. but still need to improve.
a bit late but then again…heheheh…never too late for poison
started making lures while i was studying in india. kept losing lures to those giant mangrove jacks and senangins… dad can’t afford to send me 5 lures a month. so had to make my own lor. 1st lure i copied was a jointed rebel fastrac. didn’ swim that well but indian fishes don’t give a damn. gave that lure to my dad for souvenir after 1st fish caught on it. never researched anywhere before making a lure, just chopped up a piece of wood which was lying around my room.
then came back to malaysia to continue studies. had time to search the net. stumbled upon lapala’s article in TU. that was one of the earlier tutorials i used. then met the fella in person and got more addicted. my reason for making lures is simple. no money to buy lures. rm30 spent on a lure is better spent buying materials to make lures. more personalization of lures, customization and best of all, satisfaction guaranteed. and like mastercard puts it, a homemade lure is priceless(or rm 200 for the cheapest lapala lure), for everything else, there’s mastercard.
didn’t manage to make much lures, but enough to play around with. currently i don’t have a single handmade lure for keeping, mostly distributed around, for usage and some made into keychains. have caught fishes on my lures, and am proud of it.
before i quieted down, managed to poison a few friends i.e Fatrap, Rainbow runner and rusabekeng. a job well done…the baton has been passed and it’s good to see them flourish so well.
my email is fir3tig3r@gmail.com but don’t bother emailing me coz i don’t have time to go to the loo also heheheheh… my new email is lapalalures@gmail.com i managed to hire my sifu to take my messages so pls mail ME at lapalalures@gmail.com and my sifu will take the trouble to reply to u all hehehehhehehhehehehehheh

Started out being mesmerised by the lure making skills of the Grand Master (who by the way was known as Rapala then). Never thought I would get myself nto it as I thought it was too difficult. However, after FT’s in depth tutorials, FR’s continual poison and the Grand Master’s input; came about making my first key-ring [/img]
After much constructive comments from everybody, proceeded to try and master other disciplines of the lure making process. Along the way, have poisoned various other individuals to join us on the Dark Side.
Learnt that our group though small is ever willing to share experiences and necessary materials when approached. Also learnt that this part of MFN is probably the happiest place around![;)]
