Differences between Spinning reel and Baitcasting reel
Spinning Reel
* Twists the line when "cranked on the drag".
* Can increase lure-tumble during casting.
* Are easier to set on the floor of the boat - reel sits on floor. with the rod ready to grab quickly. Bait casters ALWAYS roll over and sit upside down.
* Are easier to learn to use overall - no settings for spool spin, and lure weight.
* Works nicest with 2 to 12 lb. line
* Are easier to hold in your hand. The reel's weight is under the rod instead of on top of the rod like a baitcaster reel.
Baitcasting Reel
* Do not twist the line when you "crank on the drag" - line goes out linearly and returns the same way.
* Allow the lure to cast more accurately with less tumble
* Work better with heavier lines and braided lines - 10 to 20 lbs.
* Require that you adjust the reel's spool friction for the weight of each lure that you cast. Change a lure, change the friction setting on the side of the wheel.
* Require the user to have a good feel for the weight of the lure, the casting distance and the spool friction.
* Make great, trolling-only rods especially for big fish.
* Do not sit well on the floor of the boat - always ends upside down.
* Are fun to to use but baitcasters are for patient people who like to mess around a bit more. If you're on a tight time budget, spinning reels might be better.
If you are comparing Baitrunners with normal spinning reels …
Normally has two separate drag systems - allows you to have a very light drag on when you are waiting for the fish to fully mouth your bait, and you can engage the other drag ( set higher ) when you want to set the hook. Advantage - for tentative biters, they feel minimum resistance when they first start to take your bait.
Problems - much more complicated mechanism, always larger and normally heavier, and cost more.
Solution ? - a rubber band around the handle where you can loop your line when waiting for the first bite. A piece of favorite stone on your line also achieves the same. Advantage - free.
Do I use Baitrunners ? - Yes
On the weaker drag setting, they can help you avoid tangles if the bite is sudden and sharp. This tangling can happen if you use a rubber band or a stone to weigh down your line.
In windy weather, the loose line that results when you use either the rubber band or stone can also cause tangles when you least want them. With Baitrunners, you do not have loose line.
For pond use where the reel is left on a rest, the weight and size difference is not a problem.
just my useless opinion…can be ignored as you please..
baitcasters are always better because of the 'no’line twist and by par are much stronger..
baitcasters with the ability to cast what the spinning can do on micros are expensive
spinning…easier to use…hassle free…just crank any lure up but as suited to rod poundage..
better at 3g and underweight(not the person though)
if you want to go to the extreme weightless lure you should try the fly reel…but you cannot fly of course without learning it right from the SUPERMAN sifoos or sensei…
adios…and thanks for reading…i’m not a fisherman i’m a caster…
bro’s…its spinning vs spinnings baitrunners…
mike..thank you for the clarification…what is the small size baitrunner in the market..i saw 500 series in sea tackle sale but not worth the rm40 price tag on it…it looked kinda weak..so i guess i’m thinking abnout 1000 series if any in the market…

RK, there is not many choice for small baitrunner reel. Dam may have smaller size, and recently Shimano introduce the Baitrunner DL series with 2500 size. It is one of the smallest in the market. Selling like hot cake in Kepong Tackle. Stocks all booked before they reach the shop.
Mike has pretty much mentioned all the good and bad of baitrunner. Its more suited to bottom fishing like rohu, patin or siakap if you are talking about pond fishing. After I have used the baitrunner reel, I left my other spinning reels at home. Feel very comfortable fishing with it
Weng - actually the Shimano Baitrunners ( 4500 and 6000 ) can also used for the huge fellows.
I was lucky enough to try them in BSR Bangkok a few months ago … no problems with even the giant Mekong cats !
These fellas obviously behave like freight trains, but the lower drag setting allows them to fully grab the fist sized bait before you engage the higher drag with a turn of the handle, and strike hard.
Talking about small ones, I have the MITCHELL Predator 200 which is tiny - but this was bought in Australia a few years ago. My DAM QUICK HPN 620FS is however available here, and quite OK so long as I do not take it to Bangkok ![:D]
Definitely Mike. Its for fishes big and small. Correct me if I’m wrong, the baitrunner is effective for “smart” fish which doesn’t wallop the bait with a bang, but bite lightly and run for a distance before swallowing. The loose drag will fool the fish so that it wouldnt feel the tension of the line and will confidently eat the bait a few second later. Fishes like siakap and sailfish ?

those camo reels are not shimanos. it does not conform to the shape of a shimano; the body, handle, grip…it’s an OEM reel closer to the likes of Tomman or Surecatch or Tica.
Weng - actually the rubber band or stone works better for the timid or smart fishes - there is zero resistance from the reel because the bail arm is open.
That is also the problem - the open bail can allow loops of line to uncoil when you are happily looking somewhere else - especially when the wind is strong. The baitrunner has it’s bail arm closed - so you do not get the loose line flapping about. You set the second drag just tight enough to stop this from happening.
Sailfish ? - Yes, I have experienced how they sometimes play with the bait - but Siakaps ? - some of these fellows hit quite hard. For carps and that kind of a fish who mouth the bait - these are the guys who are the main reason for my using the baitrunner - but in my experience, baitrunners are useful for almost all types of fish - deep sea or fresh water - even trolling - just set the second drag high enough to keep your line from running out.
RR…no problemo..hehe..sorry for confusing everyone with my question..hehe..rr..sunday 25th are you free for Joran utama (WKL2020’s sacret titans ground)
