take a kid fishing

i was browsing thru old R&L mad (not so old,i think it’s march 2010)..and saw the event …dear sir’s how about having the 2nd event…slightly bigger with more children/teens?

i think the first one was a blast..with lots of good memories for the children who took part..they will cherish it…and for sure, they will pass that on to their children…

your thoughts please..

RK - it may help if we are a little bit more specific - which organization, where, and so on.

If you and others are planning for somewhere in KL - then you can count me in. Glad to help out. [:)]

RK Bro, Actually the MAC 2010 edition features was the 2nd Edition organised by KAGUM at FV. The 1st Ed was at Tow Foo 2009.

Beautiful take on RK !

Yes we all at KAGUM would like to do this program more often than before. We are also looking into other orphanages or homes that would like to part take. Lets spend your time taking this kids out for fishing…and to top that off, it not just about purely teaching them fishing. But the thought of you being a role model to share your experience and have a great bonding session with them !.

AC can relate to this program very well and he was there during the TAKF in FV. Everyone is welcome to support and first and foremost is to name us any homes that are interested in doing so ! We are open to hear your suggestion. Log onto our KAGUM Facebook to see more beautiful pictures on this eventful program

Thanks Bro Mingmon.

The organisation that I work for recently adopted National Aids council’s Orphanage as their focus this year on their csr activities.
I’m currently checking how many kids between 12-15 years old they have for ‘take a kid fishing’. (would it be okey if for kids younger than that).

My heart is realy for these kids. Their either have been abandon by their parents and relatives or their parents no longer alive and their relatives don’t want anything to do with them.

please let me know what you guys think.

Mingmon Sifu, I’m extremely honored to be able to participated in the 2nd Edition of TAKF. I just want to share & create understanding, hope & happiness. I pledge to give out some Hong Kong Disneyland souveniers in the 3rd Edition.

RK Bro, Younger than 12yrs old are OK as long as there are sufficient guardians to guide and nutured them. Provided if, you can organise it, pls do count me in.

Hoi AC ! apa Sifu-Sifu…

Nobody is sifu sir, as much as you are honored. I feel blessed to be doing something so memorable for the kids as well. Again, with the great help, support and contribution, the 3rd edition of TAKF will take off anytime. As far as I know, the owner of Fish Valley is more than happy to have this program held there again.

Red Kelisa bro, yes kids below 12 are also welcome to join. Most importantly they are monitored 24/7 ! their safety is utmost important. We also wish to cater to all the children from the home or so, just that some are too young and disallowed from the caretakers. Which is to me, a saddening thought when you see the younger kids cant join in the fun and left at the home…

Lets make this happen, and your help and support is much needed as we are also looking for another group for the 3rd edition. Hope to hear from you all soon guys..cheers

Hi Guys, and hi there Sifu Ming!!![:D]

I was discussing with Bro Guvnor (he’s our TAKF leader), the other day, that KAGUM should be doing another outing soon.

So, he’s working on it. Currently trying to identify potential orphanages and the like, plus suitable fishing ponds.

Here, suitable means:

  • Owner very sporting one: FOC for the kids, can help with some of the logistics…
  • Not too far from the orphanage. Transport always a challenge

So far, we have worked with around 16 kids at a time, but this can be expanded provided we get enough volunteers on the day. The ground rule is: we need one “uncle” for a pair of kids, to ensure they are well attended to. Fishing is actually the secondary objective. It’s more the quiet interactions between uncle and nephews that matter.

Okay, any suggestions for good orphanages and venues?

Sifu Mingmon, Your knowledge, experiences, technical know how are in higher status than me, so I think it is absolutely correct to address you as Sifu. </font id=“size4”></font id=“red”></font id=“Arial Black”>

AC bro ! there are no hierarchy in such manner ! haiya how can you simply call me sifu because of my shallow-ness..ahahah
Beat that aside, Guvnor and JB are knocking doors on the orphanages and plus we have found a new VENUE !!.. A place many people wouldnt think of it

So stay tune and spread the words around for any kind souls/organization that would like to do a good cause for the kids in sense of Contribution/volunteer.

Most importantly, to suggest us some orphanages around PJ, Subang, Kelana Jaya area etc !

If you take a kid fishing out of kindness for a day or two and later the kid wants to fish but you are not around, how is he going to solve his longing of going to fish?

The problem is not about taking a kid to go fishing. But opening up more opportunities for fishing. Just take a look at so many lakes in our gardens around Kuala Lumpur, they are all out of fishing. If these lakes are open, I am sure many many kids would go fishing even without us taking them.

So I think the problem lies not with the kids having no opportunities, but the authorities need to change their mind set to provide venues for fishing.

Fishing is a healthy hobby. Unfortunately many government agencies dont realise this.
