Threads with too Many Pages

This is an appeal to MFN Forumers

I notice there are threads with postings up to hundreds of pages and the page listing is taking up a lot of space and we’ll need to scroll down a page just to get to the next posting. Imagine accessing that on the small screen of a PDA or PDA phone (actually I’ve given up on that).

So here’s a suggestions, can we keep the threads to say max 20 pages?
To continue past 20 pages, just post a new thread with the same title marked part 2, II etc and a link to the old page.

Boleh Tak?

100 % AGREE, let’s do it.

Never had been a problem for me. Just click the little arrow next to the last poster’s name and I’m there. IMHO, the great number of pages in a thread is due to quotes upon quotes upon quotes. So convenient when we wish to reply.

Another thing is the size of pics attached. Some are HUGE!!!

Add that together and we have only 4 to 5 postings per page!

Richard, wait till you look at the pages in a PDA. Even finding that little arrow is a chore lol.

I was screwed when I introduced the rules for 20 pages per thread in Laporan Pancing. Guess rules will never work in MFN. [:D] But, it’s good to let them know the problems of the long thread, big and too many signatures, all pictures quoted but just to say congrats! No big deal for me as I am using broadband at home but pity the dial up users.

bwan I guess that would be the ego hunters who count their achievement by how many pages their thread is lol. Even with broadband the problem is a waste of time.

But honestly this is a problem with Snitz forums actually other forum sofware will truncate pages to 1,2,3…516 so it’s not so much of a page hog.

I am not a computer whiz but I have two suggestions.

  1. Can those thread with more than 10 pages become something like this; 1~10,11,12,13,14,15,16.? whereby only the first and the last 9 pages are shown?

  2. A box to show the latest 20 or 25 entries or post irrespective of threads?

The above would, in my opinion, make browsing easier.

I am raising an issue with this old thread. As a new forumer, I tend to look at active topics or just go to topics which I am interested in. It gets difficult when topics are too many pages long.

Vincent, may I suggest that for topics which are too large and open, e.g., the ever popular Fish Valley thread, why don’t we make FV a topic and have subtopics for threads like Night Fishing at FV, Big Pacu Catch at FV, Plabuk Update at FV, Lost Gear at FV (my interest in mind), etc. instead of keeping it too open? As a new forumer, I find it difficult to read the earlier posts as there are just too many pages. It would be easier to go into subtopics for areas we are interested in.

Another example is like the KAGUM event this Sunday. There are various postings on the same thing in several threads. Why don’t we get it into one common topic and then highlight the new posting by organizers on a homepage? Or have a <new!!> marked on new topics/sub topics?

Finally, another suggestion. Can we have “My Posts” to list down all the threads that one participates in so that there is no necessity to go into every topic menu in search of an enquiry made to a certain subtopic?

Just an idea as I frequent quite a number of forums other than fishing.[:I]
