TICA CETUS

Tired the Tica Cetus 500 recently. I found the small mini reel to be fun, smooth and reasonably smooth for it’s size. Do not buy the SS 500 model that comes with a so called graphite spare spool. This spare spool is hopeless[V]. It dont fit well into the reel. Even at full drag lock position, the spool still spin like no drag[:(]. Took the spare spool back to the shop to claim. No news of replacement to date[:(!]. The spare alu spoon of the SB model is ok.</font id=“purple”>

I played around with Tica Cetus few times and they are smooth reels with strong drag. Tempted to buy one but went home with a Shimano AX-ULSA instead… love the old school look… drag not as strong or smooth like cetus… enough for light lines… so far landed a juvenile patin with ease… hopefully some biggies will give me the chance to test the reel…

“Out for the thrill, not for the kill!”

the cetus line of reels by tica have always been in the good books of most of my friends here at Team LKG. i would highly recommend these reels for the price point, and the performance to beat. if not mistaken there are many reels n these series, differentiated by ball bearing counts, color schemes and materials used.

WAR: it’s not about who’s RIGHT, it’s about who’s LEFT

The Tica Cetus that I am using now is the SS500 and SB500, 6 BB series. These reels are in the mini/UL category. If paired with UL rods and using really lite lines - 2-4lbs, the fun and fear factor are unbelievable.</font id=“purple”>

Errrr…GP…is it a Shakespeare AX-ULSA or a Shimano AX-ULSA?</font id=“purple”>

Shimano… black in colour with silver spool… inferior compared to cetus… [:p]

OIC…I have a Shakespeare AX-ULSA 2500 thats silver in color and size as small as the Cetus. Not as smooth as Cetus but have stronger drag capability</font id=“purple”>

In my opinion, the Cetus should be better. Dont get the SS version. The so called graphite spare spool is a joke. The SB500, 6BB version comes with aluminium spare spool. You can get this at kuchai for RM 90 only. Remember this reel is for UL action only so dont go overboard on the line poundage</font id=“purple”>

the graphite spool really so bad ah? Not very sure myself, it’s been ages since i last touch my cetus, pity them got 2 gold cetus in my closet havent been used since a year or two ago hahaha.

Since the purchase of reels like Shimano Sahara 750 and Ultegra 1000 and going more often for bigger fish(larger than half kilo la tat’s it) the Cetus hav been shunned… my bad. Taking them out tonight and grease them for some action soon la i hope haha

As for me, found them not so smooth after some use. When going UL, one of the most aspect tat i stressed is always smoothness. Find tat cetus lack of tat sometimes. Well i cant tell now since it’s been such a long time since i last use it, long enough to can;t giv a clear answer

However i think the graphite spool are cool just because they are louder than the metal counterpart hahaha… The noise they make when big fish is pulling hard is awsome lol!

I hope i am wrong bout their smoothness will try them soon haha… btw i hav a pair of the gold cetus(second best), i’m willing to let another one go at half it’s ori price, who wan? Internally is all new and good, used once or twice only however cosmetic wise will not be as pleasing la, can hav a look if u wan

Novice angler here, any constructive advices greatly appreciated. Thank you

TJS,

The gold cetus you are talking about, is it SS or SB version? How many BB? At 1/2 price, I m interested.</font id=“purple”>

I have used the Cetus 500 on 3-5kg freshwater fishes with no problem so far. In fact I have more fun with this mini reel and 4lb line than bigger outfit. Of course have to pair with UL rod also la[8D].
Sengiran {the sifu now[;)]} have fished with 2lb line for freshwater fishes of 2-4kg with sucess lately after owning a TS UL handcrafted rod recently[^].

i bought mine about 7-8 yrs ago which cost me around RM55 only, can’t remember the model though. landed some “small” fishes with it, including 3++ kg rohu, 3++kg patin, 2++kg siakap of bedong etc. spooled with 6lbs mono, and later changed to 4lbs braid. the performance can’t be considered as outstanding comparing to high-end models such as twinpower (i’d give a 7 to cetus if twinpower scores 10), but for the price of < 10% of a twinpower, i would say it is a highly recommended UL reel.

i used to use my cetus every single trip and i used to fish on weekly basis. i’ve only had my it serviced twice in 4 years, and the 2nd service is just before i stopped using it. not that i don’t like to use the reel, but i’ve stopped going payponds.

WKL bro,

Whole thing gold, i suppose it;s the SB model bro… 6 ball bearing and a spare spool and the reel clothes but no box

And yup u r right it’s rm90 when i first bought it, and correct… half price. Since i no longer using it anyway, wat a waste of talent. Just bought it to improve my first cetus cosmetic nia. Therefore even tho the inner part are all brand new(u can check, all the grease all new too) the outer plate are my first reel’s ones lol… funny right but u know la my first cetus serve me very well and so i pamper it with new skin lol

No worries if wkl bro dun wan then u can hav it the same price anyway! However tough luck la since it’s entirely brand new inside, unless wkl is those that look for outer look and bling bling then u got chance hahahaha

Well, there are a total of 4 reel in cetus lineup which is undisputable. I decided to state below their name and noral price i;ve seen so tat no one get confuse ok

  • LF500. Cheapest series. Around rm40++. 3 bearing. no spare spool. light green body and silver spool
  • GV500. Around rm50-60+. 5 bearing. no spare spool as well. Dark grey body and gold spool with no drilled holes
  • SB500. rm90. 7 bearing. 1 spare spool. Whole thing gold.
  • SS500. rm95. 7 bearing. 1 spare spool. Grey body and gold spool with drilled holes.
