Tomman... Any quality with such low prices?

Hey ppl, was at a TCE tackle shop recently…

Just went in for a look see…

Talked to the person in charge there for some time about local brands and their quality (or in some cases, lack of it).

He was trying to convince me that Tomman brand nowadays produce much better reels than they used to. And of course, for the price, it’s almost dirt cheap sometimes.

I’ve always felt that Tomman reels would never be able to take heavy pressure.

But, i would like to ask if you guys can share on some of your experiences with your own Tomman spinning reels. Are there any worth buying. Maybe can give a product review of your own reel if you think it has served you well.

Thanks.

Depends on what you want to use it for.
Managed to land a 3-kilo catfish during one of the session at kolam Teratak Madu. The reel was a tomman size 500 type, bought for RM38 two-years back.

Bought 2 rm40 i think each

Can use la… but breakdown after sometime… no comment la… wat u pay is wat u get but tat doesnt mean all expensive gear are tat reliable anyway…

Novice angler here, any constructive advices greatly appreciated. Thank you

Tomman… spinning reel.. ok leeh.. bought one for my gf.. to use.. black and pick colour one.. so cute… the reel is very very smooth.. feels and looks cheap though… bought it bec. she like the pink colour… go figure…thank god she did not want a Stella.. or else wallet koyak
Took it PB fishing and caught a lot of PB,.. was hoping she can hantam until pecah.. however until today never pecah weeh.. her biggest PB was about 700g weeh…reel also caught 9kg Rohu and a couple of Baung oledi…the reel I can say help up…

Not too bad a reel I would say for the price, the drag is a bit funny leeh.. not accurate at all… sometimes tight sometimes loose even if i turn it the equal amount of times … but that is ok.. gf cannot tell diff.. hehehehehehehe… all she enjoys is catching…

Moving back to the reel, I think can buy laah for beginners or fishoos with limited budget, its kinda like the perodua or proton range of reels laah.. no bling bling…(well sometimes bling bling.. I manage to get a pink reel.. how many reel mfg’ers makes have pink reels.. hehehehe)

I think those who are loking to spend in that price range, these are decent reels… however if u look hard enough if u can find the old old ABU or Quantum or even Shimano or Daiwa theya re similar range, not as smooth but will last u a hell of a lot longer

No pain no gain, dont try dont know… muahahahahaha

Yup, real cute
Tomman Platinum Tiny 500

Metal spool.

yeah. this tiny 500-sized reel has pretty good reviews so far… from what i’ve heard la.
many say that it’s surprisingly very solid n can take a lot of pressure.
actually was thinking of getting one soon, to try it out. price still around rm40 or so i think.
got a friend who has been using his for at least 2 years too. even 3-4 kilo pacu n 5-6 kilo keli all no prob, he says… now still good condition since he takes care of it.

talking about this reel, some lucky b***** dalai lama cuaght 7kg siakap with ot b4. i’d say it’s a good value for money reel. just don’t over abuse it (like use it for sailfish), then it would last u quite some time. even if it broke, u won’t feel heart pain, just get a new 1 [:D]

Well you are so right on that account too… just came back with her from Rompin.. she manage to land a nice sized koay kau (About 1kg plus ) on a PE1.2 Offblow rod… and this is fishing in 90 feet of water… left her to her own devices .. just tied the rig and let her rock and roll.. hehehehe..

I have to say i was super impressed, she can tangkap her own live udang .. bait it on the hook and all that… by the looks of it, she will be out fishing me by next season

No pain no gain, dont try dont know… muahahahahaha

Going to try to get one. Especially like the handle attachment to the main body - not like those with fancy push / pull buttons etc. - all happily wobbling away and just waiting to get loose !

Just checked - no sexy Black / Red like your photo, but Red and Gold ! Enough to frighten a Toman I am sure. [:D]

My humble opinion…

We should not hantam Tommman brand and have general BAD opinion abt it,but we sould review reel as individual model. Even branded stuffs have bad models.</font id=“purple”>

I think we should not hantam Tomman as a brand of low quality products but to review it’s products individualyl instead. Surecactch, Tica, Okuma, started with rubbish too. C where they are today. Lets gv TCE Tacle a chance. I am not in any way involve with them. Just giving my humble opinion.</font id=“purple”>

yeah, agree with wkl2020. actually give them a chance to prove their worth.
i think all of us know that something doesn’t have to be expensive to be able to work well.
i like the fact that tomman stuff are so affordable n they have an insane variety of models, esp spinning reels.

for me tomman brand is affordable but no realibility coz ive been kena by this brand huhuhu

Heard that TCE Tackle is having a BIG BIG Sale next month [Dec 09]. Thinking of getting hold of a Tomman reel to try out. Any recommendations on which models?</font id=“purple”>
