TOKYO, Aug 11 — Unpopular Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan signalled yesterday he is ready to resign in the coming weeks after parliament made headway on key legislation, setting the stage for Japan’s sixth prime minister in five years.
Kan cited inability to deal with Japan’s structural economic problem and the recent mishandling of the recent natural disaster as the main reasons for his move.
This paves the way for his reclusive elder brother who is living in Penang, Malaysia to fill in for him in a compromise deal struck with senior members of his ruling Democratic Party.
Kiong Kan, a Dalai Lama look-alike has been unavailable for comment since the announcement despite repeated attempts by the media.
