LaPala bro,
it was a bakelite (am i spell it right?) that used to make a jigs and fixtures in industrial companies…
and using an ATC epoxy coating which took about 24hr to cure…
so, senang sikit nak buat “kerja”…[:D]
btw this lure swim like a dying fish yesterday, tumbling upside down…[:D][:D][:D]
it is just no luck yet to hook any fish…[xx(]

Wah, memang bullet proof lar macam tu. Try adding weight to the front as well. For and underwater gliding/walk the dog/twitching bait the weighting is more towards balanced front and back with the lure able to sink almost horizontally.

“this lure swim like a dying fish yesterday, tumbling upside down”

Roosta, the funny thing is that I am currently trying to design a lure that swims like a dying fish, for a member on TU.

The bait looks good, nice art work. That is not the easiest action to achieve in a small lure. Good luck with it.

Dave

Thanks Dave…
though it sounds a bit funny, yet i still take it as a compliment…[^][:D]
to be sincere, i do had a strong feeling it will get some fish big or small… sooner or later…[:D]

Yes, it was a compliment, you do nice work.

I have not built that style of lure, but understand how they work. LP nailed it. The weight must be distributed throughout the lure. A lot of builders achieve this by using heavier woods, but adding ballast front and rear achieves the same thing.

With all the experimenting required on this style, it might be worth completing one for the testing job, without paint. Something that you can cut and hack without feeling the pain. But you have to complete the lure, with hooks and top coat, as these items effect how it swims.

Dave

Dave,
thanks again… it is not we dont want to do the trial first before completing the lure, but in most cases
we either too confident or too eager to complete the work before
realize on the error and weaknesses…[:D]
further more, there is no swimming pool to carry out the evaluation test…[xx(][:D][:D]

Hehe, I totally understand. When I lived in KL, the apartment complex had a pool, but no workshop. Now I have a fully equiped workshop and no pool. I went to a friends house today for a swim test of the first proto of the dying fish. Not good, swam like a speed boat propeller, still, I did learn and will build proto No2 tomorrow.

Dave

wow! are you that productive? every day got one prototype?
all the best to you, Dave. me? maybe next CNY holiday will produce
a piece or two…[:D]

It’s not really productive. It only takes aboyt 30 minutes actual work time, the rest is waiting for drying. Also, I am not painting and I have a machine that rough cuts the bodies. I cut 12 bodies at the start, so now I can just pick one up, cut the lip slot, drill the ballast and eye holes and seal with polyester resin. Twist some eyes, cut a lip, pour some lead, glue together and top coat.

wow! 12pcs at one production lot?
i may take half year to build those quantity…[:D][:D][:D]
do you mind sharing some of it here?[:p][:p][:D]

12 bodies takes about an hour, including sanding. Todays proto is on the drying wheel.

Hope this discussion is not seen as a hijack. Some very nice lures featured in this thread.

That is a tough material to work with. You are obviously going for a fast sinking lure. Bakelite has a specific gravity of 1.362. Nice work and a good tutorial.

Dave

Thanks Dave.
I am purposely making a fast sinking lure as always going for a boat casting at Pulau Sembilan, Perak…
not much time to wait for lure to sink and dive as sometimes boat are moving quite fast and a lot of area to be covered…
hardly find a small lure with some weight in the market, so that have to DIY with those materials…[:D]

Sort of a crankin’ jig. I cannot remember reading about this method in the forums, but that is what this hobby is all about, identify a problem and solve it.
