Just got a note from Saber Singapore - after many months, the new shipment is now in hand - and presumably will arrive in KL soon.
For those who have not tried it yet - strongly recommended so that your cork handle stays protected but without the slippery feel of an epoxy coat.
Just be careful as the stuff has a limited shelf life even when in the bottle - a few guys can share - does at least 20 rods, and more if you do not put on excessively thick coats.
thanks for the heads-up, Mike.
wouldn’t mind splitting the cost and sharing with a few of our brothers as i have two rods with cork handles.
With new rods - just a wipe down with a damp rag to remove the dust and leave to dry before painting.
With stained cork grips - wash with detergent, lightly sandpaper, and paint.
You will find that you can only get one coat down - the second coat will not go on the moment the first coat has dried.
The stuff is water soluble when still wet - so no problems with washing your paint brushes after you finish.
acheong - let’s see how many are interested - if not, you can always pop over for a free coat ! [:)]
Mike, I have coated my rod with Araldite. Any chance that I can apply a coat of wood seal over it? What I mean is that does the wood seal stick over the Araldite?
The U - 40 will not go on over epoxy - it needs to soak into the cork in order to protect it.
Yeah, I did the same to some of my earlier rods - unfortunately you cannot remove epoxies like Araldite easily.[xx(]
Yes, you can slowly sand it down until you get to the cork - but this will be very tedious, and you will remove quite a lot of it - better to leave it there.
