Dear all flyfishing friends,
I have been asked to deliver this message to you that there will be a fly fishing competition to be held at Bedong Fishing Pond at Bedong, Kedah on 12th December 2009
We have granted the blessing from Mr Ah Tai of Bedong Fishing pond, the pond will be close for fishing 5 days before the competition, and no feeding during the 5 days.
Tacklebox and Psage Merdana are very generously agreed to sponsor some VERY attractive prices…

Those who wish to participate should register their interest with Nick Ooi of Tacklebox (03-56370268/0192025524). For out station participants who require accomodation there, detail will be facilitate later.
Fly Fishing competition will be held at Bedong fishing pond
Date : 12th December 2009
Time :
6.15am - All participant are to register at Bedong Pond
6.30am - Participant will draw their lucky ‘number’
6.40am - Briefing on Competition rules
6.45am - Safety briefing
6.55am - Participant get ready at their fishing spot ( mark with number )
7.00am - Start fishing
( All participant will be rotate every 30 minutes )
Gears : Fly fishing gears are limit to wt5 - wt 8
( Participant are advice to use wt7 - wt 8, Reason : to cut down stress and damage on fishes )
All participant are advice to de-barb or pinch down the barb of the flies
All participant are only allow to fish with single hook single fly during fishing
No tandem hook or fly are allow
No limitation on fly pattern ( except tandem fly )
Dron.. it might be a mistake not feeding the fish for 5 days..They won’t be active in fact they might turn out to be very lethargic.And a very good example is KAKILAI.. Ah Thong fed his fishes evereyday and compare the power of the fish between Bedong And Kakilai you will agree with me that its a world of a difference..Fishes that are fed are turbo charged…Just my 2 cts worth..

It’s not so much of who win or loss… it’s a friendly competition where we hope to meet everyone… know each other… have fun together… laugh together..share about fly fishing experience… and make this fly fishing community one big family…

We have been planning this for some time. For those who are not familiar with Bedong, this is your chance to go. There are 3 fishable ponds and the place is full with with siakap (also known as Siti) to the brim, well there are tons of the ranging from half a kg to 15 kg. Normal days fishing you will get fed up up them, sampai you muntah siakap hahahaha…The best fish to catch however is not siakap. Yes you guest it right, It’s AZIZAH aka the ladyfish or bandang or giant herring and also known in the US as the ten pounder. There are other fish there such as 1.5kg GTs, jenahaks and some decent tarpon (1 kg). Azizahs weigh between 1 kg to a mighty 4 kg, and the 2.5 kg upwards will strip and burn your line in seconds. Your knees would go jelly and more often than not it will jump and jump and jump busting your leader.And if you caught a 15kgs Siti with no 5 rod, i wish you luck… Try asking Ian Peters and David Samuel if you want to know more. Get yourself registered quick and let’s enjoy ourself there.

Guys, just came back from meeting… these are some additional information and rules for the competition…
Some detail about the competition.
The objective of the competition are to have FUN and to Unite all Fly Fishers

11.30am - 2.00pm Lunch break
2.00pm - Start fishing
6.00pm - competition end

Prices and Trophy
For your safety purpose, all participant are advice to wear hat/cap and glasses.
All participant are advice to bring your own landing net ( preferably long landing net ), as we will not and not advice third party to net the fish for you, just in-case… the fish were lost during netting.
No lip grip are allow.
Each Participant will get a Limited edition T-shirt ( will post the design later )
Participant will need to register in detail and pay deposit. ( Detail for registration will be posted later )
For this competition, we decided to open to individual participation only.
Competition will be base on point form… the highest point will be the winner. ( Prices for 1st, 2nd and 3rd )
There are also lucky draw… 5 fly box fill with selected fly pattern tie by the UFO committee…
( include some of my Semi Realistic Pattern )
