Van Staal Reel

I used a Van Staal VS25 during my recent trip to Seychelles. The verdict:-

Pros
1] Built like a tank
2] Extremely smooth drag
3] Durable
4] Can stand up to brutes

Cons
1] Extremely heavy. Hands get tired very fast.
2] Definately not suitable to Asian size
3] Expensive maintenance cost
4] High price

VSB stands for Van Staal with Bail Arm. The original Van Staal is without bail arm. You need to manually lift the line with your finger to place on rotor roller.
VSB 100 is the smallest size, about the same as ABU Cardinal C4 or C5.
Bloody heavy reel. If you like Popeye style hands and arms, then Van Staal is highly recommended[:D]
Oh…BTW…I no sifu la…newbie ma[;)]

van staals…nice reels, always intrigued me.

was wondering this…imagine letting ur jigs freefalling, then before the jig reaches the intended depth, it got taken. line peeling out like mad. a huge dogtooth is on the other end. how do u manually put the line onto the bail? [:D]

WAR: it’s not about who’s RIGHT, it’s about who’s LEFT

Had just experienced what you said at Seychelles. The brute took the popper once it landed on water. What you need to do is puul back the line with you finger toward the reel seat stem and wind, the bail roller will catch on immediately.</font id=“purple”>
