Welcome to a new topic on a favourite paypond fish introduced by the Perikanan guys in the 80s (can someone correct me on this?) that didn’t find many people eating it and now has become a popular fish to bust lines.
Let’s start the ball rolling. Can someone give us a low-down on this species in another thread? And hopefully some tips from Marlin on SP and Pacu and another sifu on hard body lure with Pacu.
Don’t mind someone giving towfoo pond pacu tips also.
Let’s get pacu-ing!

Great new topic Vince, I am looking foward to it. All this while I only do bottom fishing for Pacu with light tackle. A hard runnig species with razor sharp teeth.
Frankly, I never landed a pacu in my life before besides the one Rainbowrunner let me have a cheap thrill on years back; he struck the pacu and passed the rod to me with the reel screeching orgasmicly for 30 metres before the fish did a sailfish leap and snapped the line…it left me awestruck. From 2002 until now, no more Pacu for me (strike got, none landed).

Oh yea, nice new topic. I’ve never caught a Pacu on lures and this would be a great help and i believe there are many of us who are yet to catch a pacu on lure. Thanks!

You should go for it Vince The thrill is awesome especially on light tackles for over 2 kg Pacu. Currently I’m using 6 lb line but going for 4 lb soon.
That’s why need sifu to teach how lah. 4lb for pacu? Pond got snag?

interesting topic…i personally never landed one before and from what i heard fr my fellow angling friends, pacu is one hell of a good fighter with teeth that can cut lines…
baba once told me he landed a 2kg pacu using 2lbs line with zero drag(using his fingers to act as drag)…hope he can assist us in landing this special species so many anglers are dying to land…

caught this one on 2lb fireline on a 1-4lb rod. the fight was awesome (thankfully no snags) but getting a good hook set on a soft rod can be a pain in the u know where. i think a 4-10 rod would be ideal for these buggers to get a proper hook set. i lost so many that day cos they just get off when the hook isnt set properly.
