what a day :P

Drummm roll please.I wonder if I’m cursed from fishing in Empangan Air Kuning. What a day. One of the worst day of fishing in my life.Sit back and enjoy the plot unfolding. We hit the spot at 7am. No1 was around and it was a dam beautiful Sunday morning. We set-up at the platform hut oh the left.As usual i was the first one 2 unload and cast out.My bait was already out within minutes.

That’s when it all started. First was my BC line snapped when i tried to cast out my Spoon and my watching new spoon flying to its final resting place 50 yards away.So I had to rest-up my BC again.Due to my own fault my car keys dropped into the dam while I tried to look for my Siwels in my lure bag.Again while i was cursing my luck and looking at where it dropped, my karma took another turn. Again due to my own smartness again,My lucky (not so lucky anymore) rod launched itself into the dam. Its just fly out and i was helplessly watching it swim away. In stead of doing fishing. Satish and Startrec was trying to fishing my gear out. (its was my favorite and longest serving set up,with over 100’s of fish landed..hmmm since I am telling the story ,its was more then 1000++ fish landed with it).

I was doing the next practical thing to do,strip down to my boxers. (and yes, thank god no1 was around). It was not a pleasant site to see, dark skinned tattooed, big belly-ed hairy Indian guy on a tight colorful flowery boxer jumping into the dam to retrive the car keys. It was chest deep water with knee deep mud. I was only able to feel for the keys using my feet. After 20minuts on navigating through thick mud, while avoiding tangled fishing lines and potential rusty hooked I gave up.

So I lost my car keys, my lucky set and dignity all in one day within 20minutes of fishing there. So I continued bottom fishing with my BC as they guys also give-up fishing my rod out)

Lucky me I had a Spare set up keys on my dash board and Nick Raimi was kinda enough to help out using his perfected car jacking skills to get into my car (he claims that is not his full time job but i bet if he ever thinks of changing his career, his skills will take his a long way:P).

Total catch, myself one juvi pacu landed, satish with even more smaller pacu landed ,1 pacu bigger then his motorbike lucut due to straiten hook and wesley managed to tanguk 3 tiny microscopic prawns. We call it a day at at 1 pm.

I thought that’s it. Just got a text from wesley that i dropped my watch when I drop them at his place and something ran over it. Hye look at the bright side, its was still working. I was typing this when I got home about 2pm,instead of copy this story to be posted on MFN, I accidentally hit space bar and now I’m re typing the whole story.

Well,A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work.

Memories like this will last for a lifetime and its even batter when you and your buddies can laugh about it in many many years to come..[:o)]

(RR,i know u going 2 blast me for jumping into the water[:(!])

I thought it only happens to Mr. Bean, but you seem to have put that guy to shame lah !

Look on the brighter side, maybe somebody will produce a local program and make you famous [:D][:D][:D]

Sorry about your prized rod / reel - but more motivation to make your current set land another 1000 ?

We went to the ( less exciting ) Fish Valley - and got back just before the hailstones, lightning and thunder. Phew !

 mike..i really need to mandi bunga. my last trip there i got a big treble stuck on my tumb coz i didnt debarb it properly while trying 2 sling shot the lure in heavily covered area.had to rush 2 clinic to get it out.

i guess i m getting another set tomorrow..1000’s reel and ultra light set-up..maybe with 2-5lbs lines..

OUCH ! - that looks painful. My similar accident in Bangkok only had a single hook, and yet I had 4 nurses in their hospital looking after me !

Going to the TCE Sale to spend your hard earned money ya ? [:D]

It is a painful experience to share with us.
May you get well soon and get back to the water even sooner.

Mike.I didn’t have any nurses to take care of me :frowning: .Now I’m making sure all my hooks are debard properly.
I m getting a Daiwa UL rod. Saw this the other day in Digital. Now I got reason 2 buy it.

Piscator..I’m already recovered bro. That’s nothing actually. I guess its all in the learning experience. My conclusion. Avoid colorful flowery boxers at any cost while fishing :stuck_out_tongue:

i salute your patience and positiveness
ain’t easy for youngsters

the line snap BC … was it your little green baby?
as for the floral garment … ApekCina could’ve told you that, bro

for every incident that took place, there was back-up
someone’s looking out for you, saar [;)]

it can only get better!

RK,

Just sit back, quickly down a couple of the green cans. Life always seems better.

Hi RK,

If you stand on the dam platform, facing the lower pond, look far right. There’s a white-skirt Terminator Spinnerbait there hooked on some branches. That’s mine.

If you swim straight down from the dam platform, facing the lower pond, there should be an Ajiking Iron 2000 drag-cover sitting on the bottom. Also mine.

If you go to the opposite side of the dam platform, turn right, walk to the newly built floating roofed platform, there should be a green Rapala X-Rap on top of some tree branches. Also mine. Below the floating roofed platform, there should be a few sunken smashed up lures, one of them a yellow color SureCatch Pragrus swimbait that looks like a Tilapia & another Surebite green swimbait that looks like a baby Toman.

There should be a few Bakau & Worth spoons on the lower pond mid section area, also mine.

Sorry to hear your bad luck fishing day but I guess most of us have our fare share of wonderful fishing there. CHEERS!!! hahaha

I live for the Hunt!

hey i am sure everyone of us here has had those bad days,

Ceaser i guess sharing is caring. I guess, it was myself to be blamed.

RK,

Great story, man! Every angler has his Mr Bean days. Usually it happens at the early stages of our fishing lives. Here’s mine:

I just bought my first set of tackle: one of those RM20 ones. Before I could use it, the handle broke, leaving a tiny protrusion that I could just crank using a forefinger.

I brought that set to this holiday bungalow in PD, along with my non-fishing mates, one weekend. There’s this big lonkang with puyu and keli, nearby, with a coconut tree trunk straddling it. Imagine me standing on that, balancing myself, while trying to fish.

I cast out the worm bait, too hard, and hooked the trees at the far end. Being young and impatient, I yanked the thing.

The hook came fying back. The point entered the INSIDE of my right nostril. Then the lead flew past my right ear, and lodged itself among the trees behind me.

The pain was terrible, tears streaming down like crazy, whilst I tried to balance myself on that tree trunk. If I were to fall…[:0]

I shouted for my friends. They came running, then laughed in unison at my predicament, before aiding me. Thank goodness, the hook didn’t penetrate past the barb, or I wud have been a contender for the Batu Caves procession!

Heck, RK, maybe your day was not too bad after all![:D]

Oh, Henessy, It’s time you start casting into the water instead of into the trees! [;)]

Hi JungleBum,

Like you said, the stories of beginners. I just started off with lure fishing then so I kept casting lures as FAR AS I CAN so the lures have max time in the water but end up flying too far & off course into branches instead.

BTW, that Terminator Spinnerbait was my most ‘painful’ lure to loose. Bought for RM 32, open the packaging, connect to snap-swivel, gave it a super-dooper-mighty cast of my life on my spinning outfit, it went flying straight out into the blue yonder & landed on some branches. The first & last cast on the lure.

I live for the Hunt!

i’ve lost lures in treetops/branches, bottoms of streams/ponds, on the cast
lost SPs in most every place i decided to try
dropped loose reel handle into water’s edge right in front of me and couldn’t find it
lost countless hooks and snap locks and swivels
sunk in thigh deep mud, thank goodness there were friends around to haul me out
fell numerous times at water’s edge because i was in a rush or wasn’t looking where i was stepping
waded out into ankle deep mud and chest high water to untangle line
almost crashed through rotted tru wooden railings in my haste to net my sifu’s catch
had a friend fall off boat, another’s tackle box ended up in the drink, thankfully rescued
another lost his cap during boat journey, rescued by another boat bringing up the rear
some almost had their ears treble-hooked as one enthusiastic fella went all out for fish that was right in front of him

hazards of the game [:D][:p]
take calculated but not unnecessary risks
we are thankful for small mercies as everything could’ve been much worse - friends encountered cobras, acquaintances encountered robbers

JB, you’re very lucky it was your nose and not your eye and that the weight missed you
push barbed hooks tru as near the surface as possible to minimise further tearing of flesh/bleeding, snip off the barbed point when it emerges or debarb it - well, when you’re well away from med facilities and you wanna continue [8D]
another good reason not to use old or rusty hooks; treat hooks with respect

RK bro, which rod you gettin?
spinmatic? platinum sensor?
wot other daiwa UL rods does Unc Ng have?

" … snip off the barbed point when it emerges … "

Just thought that I would put in my 2 cents for the sake of safety. The last time this happened to me, the clown who did it went stumbling to his tackle box, and brought a pair of fancy cutters that would probably have trouble cutting off his own finger.

Try to invest into a good solid pair of cutters - it could save not only you from further pain, but also some other unlucky soul.

well mine’s not tat bad i know, but just a joke to spice up the day

i fish almost every spot i could get into and on that fateful day, i was fishing on a slope.. well not too amazing, every other anglers with a fine pairs of leg could do tat

i got hook onto a haruan… not big i guess 1kg plus only but it took the lure on the drop so an over excited me yaank pretty hard. N the mad dash of the haruan(gosh it was pretty amazing for such a still water haruan) and i actually slip and fell!

nothing happens actually… i just lost my fish… on the way home only did i realize i’ve crushed my trusty Nokia, and my first blardy phone i bought myself and an indispensible part of me then(even now my Nokia still the same, indispensible). Not bad, considering tat phone have survived countless fall, at least 10 times dropping on hard surface 1m above ground, twice in the drink, 3 bullseye shot from basketball and i forgot whatelse… finally succumb to my butt’s weight

I only have 13 years of fishing experience, so must beri tunjuk ajar!

Condition : used once dry casting only, never touched water
Price : FOC
Collection method: Self collection. Priority to ably trained person strong in swimming. Able to climb tree is a must.

Just to spike up a boring day in office [:D][:D]

LOL nice one knht, speaking of loosing lures… i did lost two expensive lures on the same spot casting twice, its my first and last cast for that two lures =.=;… sigh…

Hi Knht,

Yup, in future if I loose lures, would advertise it on MFN, stating condition & where it’s at. Self collect at your earliest convenience. Hahahaha!

BTW, I’ve also collected my fair share of other people’s abandoned lures & floats too.

I live for the Hunt!

I think in some verY early postings in this forum there are some tricks to be learnt of how to release lures stuck on trees, I think th posting was by JB or itu orang tua pro of TOWFOO…
