Recently, I went fishing with Ah Ho of GT Chaser at Bagan Datok on his new boat. The last I went fishing with him was over a year ago, and I stopped because of his bad service in late 2006. For your background, I used to be Ah Ho’s regular customer as he knows his fishing spots very very well, and really hardworking moving from one spot to another. I’m not so much of looking fish for eating, but more for sport fishing. I dont mind of not catching fish at all in a trip provided the boatman has put all his best effort to move from one lubuk to another. I only do jigging and popping. Previously, I would rated Ah Ho as among the top boatman for fishing with his cleanest wooden boat I’ve ever been to.
BUT, BUT NOT ANYMORE !!! He never change. My most recent trip with Ah Ho on his new GT Chaser to Pulau Jarak made me sweared to myself not to go again with him unless he improves. He is simply lazy to move to one fishing spot to another (if no fish), and all he cares is to park the boat by the island and sleep. If we ask him to go out, with all kind of excuses such as wind, current, and all kind of nonsense excuses. He try his best not to move around like those old days, and could probably wants to save diesel. Hey, we are not paying RM450 per person to sleep on the boat. Might as well I spend the money staying for 3D/2N at the 5 stars hotel in KL. Even the foods on boat have been reduce a lot. Maybe, he thought he is the only boat operators in the area with no competition. He has continous trips to Jarak, and most likely he is too tired to go out everyday. so, he will take all the opportunity to sleep during fishing trip. Thus, he leaves us as the victims i.e paying for boat n park by the island and sleep and slep and sleep. All I can say, Ah Ho is terribly lazy, and not worth hiring his boat anymore for fishing. I heard of many groups complaining about the same thing, and frustrated when going out fishing with Ah Ho. To my dear fishing friends, let’s boycott his boat for a while, and make him realise about his bad service. Hopefully, one day he will change, and then we can go again fishing in P. Jarak.
Does any other angler had a bad experience with Ah Ho ? Plse share with our fishing kaki so as not to get cheated by irresposible boat operator.
During my trip with Ah Ho, I requested him to park the boat on nice spot for bottom fishing during night time, and he said he is tired, need some sleep, after full day of drift jigging. On our first day out, he said he woke up on 5am to prepare for the trip, and he is not “iron man”. Of course I was not happy, but I took that as a fact, and sink my bait at spot which I know would not be productive.
There were 6 anglers on that boat that day, and I am pretty sure each and every of us had good time. The fishing that day was nothing spectacular, but we land GTs, some 6 GTs, some 1 GT only, and we thought we will return one fine day.
I am a trip organizer sometimes, and I would like to share with you one of my conditions with fellow anglers on board of my trip, right here –
“Please don’t keep your anger due to whatever incident on and off the boat and make adverse advertisement after the trip”
For me, fishing charter business is very simple, if we as angler like one specific skipper, we return, again and again. If we don’t, there are others for us to explore.
The fact that this is your first posting in MFN and with content like such, you probably have more anger to express than intention to share good and bad things with fellow anglers. My personal advise to you is, next time when you go fishing, enjoy the good thing in there. There are enough things in our daily life that sucks and we need not bring those to our fishing trip.
halo bro!hope u can understand malay!!im junior here but i think mfn forum ni 4 people love fishing n share ther thought n cerita bout happy fishing trip enjoyinhg ther self!!!ni bukan tempat kasih buruk ORANG LA…grow up la bro!!!
i think byk ni fellow anglers agree with me!!
If you bottom angler…try the other boat la…like New Happy Star, Seagull, Peter & Ah Soon, Pantai remis ( all Lumut area )…their have a good service too but if you really Jigging & Popping kaki’s..their can’t help U a lot…charges arraound RM320 - RM350 except Seagull…Happy Fishing Bro…
Everyone has their own opinion, and I do sincerely respect it very much. It is not so much of releasing the anger, but to share the experience with other fellow anglers. Just ask ourselves, do we like the same situation happen again and again to others? Of course not. If I really piss-off at Ah Ho, I would have blown it right on his face on the boat. But, I just keep quite in the understanding that I want to go fishing with him again in the near future provided he improves the service like the old good days. It is not only for me, but to rest of our anglers society. We cannot be a mr. nice guy forever, and yet other anglers got screwed and bitching at the back. Hopefully, the forum will go to Ah Ho’s attention, and one day he will improve himself for the benefit to all of us. Sincerely, I love to go fishing with Ah Ho’s due to his nicest and cleanest ever wooden type of boat.
Remember, fishing is a hobby, and to catch fish is a bonus, If we really want the fish, we better buy at the market. In other word, we want to skipper to put his best effort while taking the customers out for fishing as he is paid to do so. I dont mind of not catching fish at all provided the skipper has put his best effort.

i aggree with u
and i also have some story about this ah ho gt chaser. this is my post to LAPORAN PANCING 01/14/2008 so it in bahasa melayu
a. Bot tu memang rosak.
jadilah…
Its ok to share reports about tekongs…as long as the sharing is factual and for the good of everyone so that they know what to expect or
how to manage that tekong when its their turn to be on his boat.
Like the old English saying
"All that is needed for the forces of evil to succeed is for enough good men to remain silent. "
I have personally had a similiar bad experience on the GT Chaser last year.
In my opinion, a report is a report and there shall be no emotion element in it but scoring. Below is my scoring on Ah Ho:-
a) Boat cleanness – 5/5
b) Boat facility – 4/5 (refer to toilet, cabin spaciousness etc.)
c) Bottom fishing facility – 2.5/5 (no 12V dc on-board supply is the drawback, quantity and separation of rod holder is acceptable)
d) Jigging / popping fishing facility – 4/5 (no grip rail at the back)
e) Electronic Facility – 5/5 (he got redundant electronics in place. I don’t really like his sounder but a sounder is a sounder)
f) Safety facility – 4/5
g) Boat speed – 4/5 (for a wood-make 60++ ft. fishing boat that is)
h) Skipper attitude and friendliness – 3.5/5
i) Spot changing (jigging) – 4/5
j) Spot changing (bottom) – ?/5 (can’t complain much as ours supposed to be a pure jigging/popping trip)
k) Food & Cooks – 3.5/5
l) Punctuality – 5/5
?) Charge – 3/5 (I will take this out. Hey, we always hope they charge cheaper, don’t we? Hahaha…)
Last minute trip cancellation? Are we not familiar with it? I experienced 2 cases from Lumut charter and 1 case from Sg Besar within last 2 years. Am I unfortunate? Hahaha…
Have you been to a boat without shore radio and you have hydraulic system breakdown on middle of Malacca strait? I guess you have to experience the worst to appreciate the least.

One day, you’ll remember back this incident and laugh…[:D]
I remember when i was a kid, i use to go out to sea using the service of a Ah Pek that rows a sampan. We paid him a dollar per person for his service. He would row us to those parked boat in front of the Jetty Pulau Ketam at Port Klang. Sometimes when he’s free, he would row us to nearby fishing spot by paying him extra 50 cents.
Sometimes me and my friends would fish till midnight at the park boat. As we had told the Ah Pek about what time to come and fetch us back, he sometimes fell asleep. We would shout, scream for him to wake up. At that time, we was swearing not to use his service in the future and such. The jetty is quite far from the boat we are on, so no matter how we shout and scream, Ah Pek can’t hear us. Sometime, he would only come and fecth us in the morning which meant caning from parents.
Now that Ah Pek has gone, me and my friends will always remember him. We would sometime go back to those parked boat in front on the jetty and we would remember Ah Pek…
Now thinking back at how we shouted and screamed, we would laugh…[:D]

I disagree.
The purpose of the forum is to report matters factual, good or Bad. Not to simply tell happy stories. If you have a negative report it is a service to your fellow anglers to give them a fair warning so that they may proceed with their decisions at least informed.
I have never been on GT Chaser but have been advised against it by a few of my kakis. As such I will spend my money elsewhere.
Good Fishing and Good Food Bring Good People Together
Izzy,
Yes, and thanks for the support. We cannot be a stereotype of person, and be a mr nice guy all the time at the expense of other fellow anglers. At least, the forum will do good to other fellow anglers, and also to the skipper whom one day will realise n improve the service. At the end of it, everybody happy. HAppy Fishing
