Was it troublesome to order the float tube? I have done some research of my own, and i understand that, they will charge 40% of the item’s price for shipping and handling charges for international orders. My question is did our Malaysian custom charge any extra charges for an international parcel, in this case the float tube. Thanks…
I made a phone call to Cabela’s to clear my UK credit card with them. SE Asia is a high risk area for them to take credit card orders, but you can always TT to get around that. Other than the cost of courier or shipping, I can’t remember there being any duty at this end. I normally do door-to-door, so the courier sorts it out and I pay any additional at this end.
An additional tip. Get a “one piece” model like the one I have (and the blue one you show at the top of this page). It has two bladders but is an all in one that can be carried exactly as it’s fished with no assembly at the water. Don’t get one where the pontoons are separate (like the water scooter in the link above) and have to be strapped together because they invariably are more akward to carry and to set up when you get to the water. And they tend to unstrap or “spread” when you’re in the water, so can be distracting to fish from as you are constantly fiddling with it. I had a friend who had one and it wasn’t anywhere near as practical as the one piece models.
Hi Luther,
A good alternative is a kayak, After yor articleon the float tube, I decided to try a non motorised vessel to fish for Toman over the week end, took out 2 single Feel Free Nomad Kayaks and a 12ft Alloy Etamax Bujuk Punt with an electric motor. The punt was just incase we overturn in the middle of the lake and cannot get back on the kayak and/or if we accidentally went too far and cannot get back. Lunch and drinks were on the punt. Some photos of our weekend trip
Nice pics Pat.. Kayak is really a good alternative, but what i am looking for is a protable floating device, thus i come up with float tubes.[:)] Inflatable kayak is also a good alternative, saw one selling at Mid Valley Jusco coleman kayaks. But i have no idea how am i going to get it? Unless i fly to KL and get it.[:)]
BTW, since i will be going to labuan on the month of november this year to fish in spartly, maybe i come 2 or 3 days early for some toman fishing.. So what do you say Pat?[:D]
Dont need to wait till November, What are you doing over he Merdeka Holidays? just come to Labuan, drive to Menumbok, take the speed boat across, Can give you guys a Liteace van to drive around in Labuan. Get Mike, Jonathan, Cikgu BWAN and friends to come over. Got about 8 to 10 kayaks you guys can use. You can choose to stay at a hotel or camp out at my farm at Sungai Labu. Fish for crabs in the river or cross the road and swim in the sea. Adrian (Kiara Poltergiest) used to camp out at the farm, catch small GTs and Barracuddas at the beach area and MJs in the river. Should be great fun.
There is a coleman inflatable kayak for sale at the Shop at wisma San Hin, Tang Dynasty Hotel in KK, on ground floor, below the escalator. Not cheap.
Regards

Eat,Sleep,Fish! & Fish! & Fish! & Fish!
Thank You for invatation Pat bro.. Will ask guys, i’m sure there are keen too..[:D].
Wow, looks very stable. How thick is the material? Must be careful when casting lures. Last time I had a Coleman Fish Hunter Dinghy, Got a fish, it struggled a bit and one of the trebles got embedded into the boat.
Yes it is very stable, the material seems to be very durable, i went over some oyster shell, it only made a scracth. I bump into mangrove roots with sharp shells and the kayak just bounce rite off. Pretty hardy i must say. [:D] The only problem i m facing with this kayak is abit too light. Actually hook up a Barramundi while kayak trolling, the bow turn 180 degree facing the fish and was towing the Kayak! Now making an anchor for the kayak. Maybe i can bring over to labuan for some toman! [:D]
Same problem with the rigid kayaks, the toman tow it around the lake.
Yeah, let me know when you want to come. You can pack it up and come by ferry. Will pick you up. You can have a room to yourself on Sea Maiden 1 which is berthed in the Marina at the moment, Will be in harbour for the next 2 weeks.
Bring the whole gang over.
Regards
Pat
