Just curious, does anyone know why is it an extra tea cup is provided when you order a pot of Chinese tea?
3 cups for 2 person, or 4 cups for 3 person?
Thanks,
Vincent

During pouring of tea, to pour the first pour to the other party is considered rude as the first pour normally don’t give you the true taste of the tea. So, the 1st cup is use for the first pour lo…i agak-2 nia…hehee…[:D]
Ok I am a bit confused here: so it the last cup (which is cooled) used to into our cups?

Thats for people who wishes to have warm and not hot tea for refill. So they put in half from the teapot and half from the cooled cup depending on their preference.
BTW, when we see people pour tea in a circle of cups like when we are at the BKT shop, thats to ensure that the strength of the tea is equal and not strong in the last cup and weak in the first cup.

How do you store your tea for long period? Can it be kept in the fridge?
Family comes first, then I go fishing!!
Am no expert in tea but a good air tight container is sufficent. Unless you buy your tea in the “cake” form, then you have to store it in a cool dry place away from humidity.
However, there are some tea like the “Tim Chat” tea that requires refrigeration.
BTW, you notice how people tap the table with their fingers when someone pours tea for them.
Seems that long ago, there was this emperor that was travelling incognito to see how his subjects are doing. One day he was disguised as a waiter working at a restaurant.
Along comes one of his ministers who orders tea at the restaurant, The emperor in his disguise pours the tea for him. On noticing that the waiter is indeed the emperor in disguise and not wanting to bow in respect and blow his cover, he tapped his fingers on the table signifying homage to the emeperor.
From then on, tapping your fingers on the table when being served is a sign of gratitude and respect for the other party.
the name of the cup is “kong dao pei”, direct translation is “equal (or fair) cup”. It is used to make sure the first and last person in one pot-serving share the same aroma of tea.
Kenot be for cooling laa RR, cooling got another container wan ma. The container for pouring all the tea from the teapot so that the tea leaf won’t be soak too long in the teapot. Tea leaf contains toxin as i recall it, soaking chinese tea leaf for more than 30mins will release the toxin into our tea…[:D]

the additional cup is a cup for “heat dissipator” purpose. Meaning when you wanna fill up your cup, you don’t pour tea from the hot pot rather from the cooled cup. After that you fill up the standby cup and not your own cup, with hot tea from the pot. Some tea drinker do standby 1 cup for themself, meaning it is not necessary 1 cup is always additional, it could be more.
After sometime the standby cup is no more required, as the pot is cooler, sure.

KK,
Looks like we are both correct. Guess that shows that to enjoy life, we should not be bound by rules and regulation with such trivial matters! Good food and good company is preferred![;)][:D]
