I don’t know what weight of jigs you were using, it is no easy job if you were using 300 to 500gm jigs. You can try long jigs, it will be easier on the retrieve.

Actually the jig not that heavy just 80gm only with a PE4-6 and 8000 reel size. The first jig i dropped strike a 3.0kg jemuduk. It took few minutes to landed the fish without much problem. Like you said “smart fishing” saved me a lot of energy. I wonder if I’m using PE1-3 would be more exciting. Then the next day I used the PE1-3 with 4000 reel size but this time smaller fish hooked up, around 1.0+kg. Hope next time there is a chance to test the real power of your handmade rod. Uncle Thomas, got any trip can test power? [:D]

If you want to test power, you have to use big baits, like a big whole
kembung, selar or better still a whole ikan tongkol of 1 to 2 kg [must be fresh and shinning]. Remember, big bait big fish. Any of your usual port have big monsters lurking around, only that they are not interested in jig and small baits. Good luck!
