Fish farm boss shot dead in freak accident
SUNGAI PETANI: A fish farm owner died after being shot in a freak accident in Kampung Teluk Air Keruh, Batu Lintang, near here.
Lim Boon Thong, 47, and a friend had just returned from a wildboar hunt at 3am yesterday when the mishap occurred.
His friend, a Rela employee, in his 50s, had handed Lim his rifle when they stopped by the roadside to collect herbs.
Lim placed the rifle in his motorcycle carrier basket but the firearm fell to the ground and discharged a shot which hit him. He died on the spot.
Lim’s wife, Lee Chui Hoon, 40, said her husband had left home for the hunt at 11pm on Monday.
“He had called me at about 1am to say that he would be home late,” she said.
“I became worried when he failed to return by 9am, so I called his friend, who told me that he had died.
“The two of them had been friends for years and would always go hunting together,” she said at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital mortuary.
Kuala Muda Muda deputy OCPD Supt Ong Aik Chang said the friend had been detained and his rifle seized pending investigations.
