After reading this topic, now I am aware that my rod is a cap ayam, hehehe…well, nevermind, that one is a “tangkap muat” rod…but now,I am thinking of buying a proper one…so, can u all give me some tips on what are the recommended specs. for a good SPINNING surf rod…
so many people ere in this thread that can guide u in surf casting,i think u better look for multiplier rather than spinning setup.btw ur in messia maa…can go meet up wit all this sifu and aji ere any time to get a lesson.once u hooked to convensional reel u’ll sure dont want to go back to spinning one.
On the dot what Joe say, once you know how to cast with a multiplier, you won’t look at Spinning reel.
As for the rod, would recommend Abu Viper MH at RM170-RM190, it a 13ft/3pcs rod. This rod is stiff enough to pendulum cast with 125g sinker. For your info most 3pcs rod can take both Spinning and Multiplier.
Or you can ask En.Rahim, he got 2 Ayam A1 rod for sales.
It a 14footer/3pcs and have been tested in PeMM 2005 Casting Tourney, achieve 192m on 100g sinker.
btw bro onn…what is this A1 rod blank actually?? What brand it is?
Like the guys from marang that i meet last year in terengganu, according to u he is using an A1 ayam blank wch is a 14 ft low rung for multiplier blank, the blank that he use is just a plain blank without a brand, only a shrink tube butt, guide and the coaster…where can get this kind of blank, how much the price range, performance, action and izzit worth the price?

Joe,
Flankly speaking, I don’t know what brand or where it’s origin, anyway that the rod our friend used. Since we all don’t know it father and mother so we name it Ayam A1.
Price wise and where to get, sorry I don’t know coz I don’t own any.
if you only well into fishing, search the rod that build from high modulus carbon material…i think shimano will do the favour…there’s a few model around RM400 selling price…it’s 3 pcs, nice diametre…able to cast 150gm - 200gm but only with OTG…
For tournamnet casting-Product from Japan-Shimano Horizon @ Banana…tournament rated rod,price about RM 1000,can get it at Syarikat Kepong…got 13,14 & 15 footer…all in 3 pcs…a bit stiffer for newbie like you…
or go to Sabre at Jln.Loke Yew,you’ll will meet Zziplex-British Made…high performance rod design for tournament casting…price around RM 1500…try to look at XTR model…
spinning or multiplier ? i think both will do the job…as long you know how it perform…

Bro ONN
Always a Distant
You can say that again bro…definitely a multiplier can cast further compared to a spinning reel…but I was thinking of buying the latter for my first “proper” surfcasting tackle…Once I have mastered the technique i.e. OTG and Pendulum then only I’ll try to surfcast with a multiplier…(meanwhile, just let the tackle shop owner keep the multiplier for me in their storage [:D]).
I heard people say, to surfcast with a multiplier is much more complicated than a spinning,is it true?.. How much they differ?
zam…if i may…it’s best if you could straight away start with the multiplier as it shortens your learning curve..if you use a spinning set up and gets comfortable with it, switching into multiplier will be quite frustrating especially when you would have to choose between high mount set-up or the low mount. And then the birdnest, tuning of reel issue, techniques yada yada yada..[:)]…i am speaking thru experience though I am not an expert in this distant casting thingy yet…all the choice u will gonna make will however will be the right choice only known to you…as for me i do enjoy both set-ups and when I fish i uses both spinning and multiplier.
Thanks bro 12footer for your advice…the thing is, I am not competent with this baitcaster thing yet (probably, going to have one set next month) [:)]
IMHO, learning one by one is more systematic rather than learning both “how to baitcast and surfcast at the same time”…surfcasting is rather difficult for this johnny-come-lately [:(]…and an idea to use a baitcaster for that matter will only exacerbate the situation.
zam…if u still could catch up on this…sorry…no abu viper at syt kepong when I visited the store today..
anyhow just to enlighten you that a baitcaster i.e. in low profile multiplier if you plan to have one later may not be suitable for surfcasting..but..if you have master the use of it then it could be easier for you when you decided to surfcast using a multiplier…this is just my opinion only…i could be wrong as am not a subject matter expert on distant casting[:I]
thanks bro 12footer for informing me beforehand…i was planning to go to there tomorrow morning, perhaps, i should go to sabre tackle or “what’s-the-name-of-that-tackle-shop-next-to-sabre-tackle? (forgot the name)” instead.
or maybe you have other suggestions of surf rods for me to opt?
what ever “WELCOME TO THE WILD WORLD OF PENDULUM”…
