im planning to buy an Abu Garcia Revo STX meant for casting for haruans, toman etc… and sometimes a little saltwater casting…
But i have no idea wat rod to match it with and wat line poundage to use..
so.. if u have any opinions/suggestions… i would really appreciate it.. thanks !
You will need a few different rods, since you are planning to do a few very different types of fishing.

Huh?? One reel fill with one type of line poundage then match to different types of rods for different applications?? Can ah?

No la. haha. of course have to change line.
hmm… well, again, depends on what kinda fishing alex is looking to do.
if wanna keep same line poundage in different types of fishing, not impossible.
wong sifu seems to use UL everywhere. hehe.
20lb line will do … throw in 20-30lb leader if you wish
alex’ll need to identify the rod that will serve him best in most if not all the situations … it’ll be a toss up between action, strength/power and weight
one set to rule 'em all … [:p]
well aiming for hornet stinger 8~20lbs rating medium action 6ft6" would that suffice?

ya. nice setup for general freshwater.
but a lot of ppl broke their hornet before. so just be careful.
very nice powerful n sensitive rod, with good action. but fragile.
just ask tjs. he knows all about breaking rods. i think he broke more than RM5000 worth of rods last year. haha!
some fantasistas (not normal one sumore! regista!), gloomis, hornet, etc.
well if im getting the hornet i might as well forget about saltwater casting with this set?
u can still use for saltwater. but if u wanna use hornet, dun target even medium-sized gt la. haha.
i used 8-17 for shoreline rock casting before. it’s alright, coz i dun expect to get huge whoppers.
at the end of the day, u should consider different rods for different applications. which might also require u to change line.
and someday even have different reels for different applications.
but first, get something for the type of fishing u do the most. enjoy fishing with the setup first la.
ooo thanks =D
so …you really want to a rod?
Actually there’s none that’s why ‘they’ kept improving the rods..
but i don’t want to tell you that..enjoy reading this…
bro hazadin,
can’t really understand what are u trying to say here..

sorry bro just hovering over..but your choice is good…
happy fishing…
owh.. thanks =)
alex mate, hazadin was showing u a link bout rods… have a good read
btw, the hornet is good for it’;s price, very good in fact tat other big names and big price tag rod couldnt compare. Just rmb not to high stick it(the angle of the rod going to high, keep it maximum 80 degree or less) and also force it too much(good way to do it is lower ur reel drag to even 1 lb pressure), saltwater fishing is no issue as long as u keep in mind the two things mentioned earlier

so, conclusion, the hornet is good but fragile?
you can put it that way bro…

Abu Hornet Stinger used to land a 30Kg plabuk in BSR.
My report in:

It all depends on how u use it.

alex, be careful choosing to use advice given to you. It’s a fact that there are many “armchair” gurus in the forum.
Bro hazadin was trying to tell you that breaking a rod when fishing with the correct techniques is not easy. That’s why the web page pointed in his link is a sarcastic “10 ways to break your rod”. I believe his original message was missing a “break” in the sentence (i.e. ..break a rod…).
I own and use a Hornet Stinger and also observed it used to land numerous plabuk up to 30kgs in size.
I’ve even landed a 8kg patin with a under RM20 telescopic rod.
Uncle Thomas lands sailfishs using a teeny rod as well, its all about using the right technique.
Doc Syed’s light setup also lands him numerous ebek when fishing in Pekan.
TJS broke a lot of rods because of his extensive years of fishing, experimenting and learning along the way.
