Landing Net issue and the lip grip thing

Ok. The rules say there must be at least three landing nets per team.

Good lord, I thought.

So I called Lord Vincent, who has reverted and granted us teams to have one landing net per team instead.

I mentioned “lip-grip” and Vince paused in thought for a little; Jungle Bum made some good points about hanging the fish over the lip grip.

So like this. Since the peacock bass is on the dead or alive list, may we have permission to apply the lip grip on the fella if necessary? You know la, when the fish has completely swallowed our luckiest lure, a lip grip to comfortably hold the fish while we pry and poke and fondle it is convenient.

But for any other fish, using the lip grip like a meat hook will allow the marshalls to put us down. In other words, we use the lip grip but dangling the fish is a big boo boo.

I hope this can be allowed. The foot anglers will have a lot of ground to cover and I, for one, don’t like walking about lugging a landing net.

Murphy’s Three-fold Law:

  1. Nothing is ever as easy as it looks.

  2. Everything will take longer than you think it should.

  3. If anything can possibly go wrong, it will.

LOTM,I dont see any issue on the landing net and lip grip thingy for CWS. I’m sure the organizers wont mind letting the anglers use the latter or the former,to aid in bringing in your catches.
See you guys in CWS soon [;)]
ps…I speak on behalf of the organizers

LOTM..its not an issue at all. we leave it to you.. There are some that feels that the PBs should be cull.then cull them and there are others that feel that it should not be killed then release them.. We are there to enjoy fishing…

lip grip or no lip grip…the US Bassmaster series shows the pros lipping the fish with their thumbs & index fingers, with the fish body dangling downwards. that in a way puts a lot of downward pressure on the joints of the fish, particularly the ones in between the skull & neck bones.

i suppose these bunch of pros are not holding them in the right position either, with lip grip or lipping with bare hands… or are they?

WAR: it’s not about who’s RIGHT, it’s about who’s LEFT

My thoughts are that if the fish is on the ‘wanted dead list’, it really doesn’t matter if it is going to be a lip grip or a gaff. The important thing is safety for the angler esp in hook removals.

The whole purpose of using the net is simply that we do not want to injure any fishes that we intend to release thus ensuring the best chances for its survival.

If the fishes are to be culled anyway, I would say it doesn’t matter if you use the gaff or the lip grip. For those that intends to release their fish, use the net.

HOOOOOT AHHHH!!!
